Mt. Fuji Today
The moon was 13 days old last night. I drove to the south to moonlit Fujisan with town light. I stopped by at Shimizu Yoshiwara and shot Fujisan with the sunrise.

It's Time to Go Home Now

The sun went down and town lit up. I heard the melody of Dvorak's Symphony #2 (New World) 2nd Movement in my mind. It's time to go home now.

I wrote a blog entry about shooting Mt. Fuji from the Akaishi Mountains (A.K.A. Southern Alps). I'm writing the second part of the article and posting it soon.

Iridescent Night
I climbed Mt. Shakushi, which is one of the highest vantage point in the neighborhood to shoot Fuji. A thin sea of clouds covered the town light of Oshino and created iridescent colour. It was really an awesome view.

Long exposure is philosophy
I translated my blog post entitled 'Long exposure is philosophy' into English. Now I'm translating all pages on my website. It probably takes a couple of more days. But once it's complete, all new posts will be written in both Japanese and English.

"This Early Morning at Lake Shoji"
I created albums on flickr. As you know I can't make the album title "Mt. Fuji" since most of my photos are Fuji. So I classify them according to locations. Then, I realised I took the majority of photos in the area where I live, namely, Fujiyoshida, Kawaguchiko, Oshino and Yamanakako. So I went a little further this morning to Lake Shoji. This small like is very nice. It is also very easy to shoot if you have a car because you can park your car at the lake shore and shoot from there.

This is a test shot at high ISO. I always do this when shooting in the pitch dark. Colours were diminished after the first shot so I had to select this little noisy shot as the best shot of this morning.

Breaking the Ice

Every time I see the sunrise, I appreciate the existence of the sun. I feel doubly blessed when the sun gives a hint of warmth to the air in a freezing morning. Probably we need the absence of precious things to appreciate their value.

Perfect Serenity
Nikon D800E w/ SIGMA ART 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM

I climbed Mt. Akaishidake (3,120m/10,240ft), which is the seventh highest mountain in Japan and the main mountain in the Japan's South Alps. The summit was frozen and slippery. Lodges were already closed so I needed to carry my own sleeping bag and bivy. It wasn't easy mountaineering for me but the experience was priceless. On my way back home, I also met a Japanese serow, a very rare kind of goat-antelope.

峠 (Tōge)
Nikon D800E w/ SIGMA 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM

Leaves are already coloured in high places. I visited the Yanagisawa Touge (1472m/4829ft) at dusk after hiking the Daibosatsu Touge (1897m/6224ft). Until the Edo period (era of Tokugawa shogunate), people used the Daibosatsu Touge to go to Kofu from Tokyo (back then it was called Edo). But it was rather a dangerous route. Many people went missing at the Daibosatsu Touge and vehicles couldn't go through there. In the Meiji era, a new route was created to solve the problems and the highest point of the new route is the Yanagisawa Touge. The word 峠 (Touge, or also spelt as Toge or Tōge) means the highest point of a route that go through a mountain range. We often shoot Fuji from Touges.

Road to Fujisan
There is a huge field of silver grass called Nashigahara, which is occupied by the Japanese Self-Defence Force who uses this place for training their soldiers. On holidays, the SDF opens up the field to the public. The gates opens at 0:00AM and closes at 11:59PM. I wanted to wait the milky way to overlap with the summit of Mt. Fuji but I had to leave the place before the gate was closed.

Landscape photographer specialized in Mt. Fuji and starscapes.
Introduction
I've just moved from Tokyo to Fujiyoshida as I determined to be a landscape photographer specialized in Mt. Fuji. I also love shooting stars and am very passionate to capture Mt. Fuji together with the milky way. My main camera is a NIKON D800E and I also own a D600, D5100 and OLYMPUS OM-D E-M5.
