I've lived in Athens all my life, always loved the Varsity until recently. Will never go back. Service was extremely poor! Nobody was interested in waiting on us. Even got ignored by one worker. We waited on our food for 10 minutes! By the time we finally got it, it was cold. Sent it back for fresh and hot food. Cooks were playing on their phones, talking, not cooking. One woman was doing all the cooking while 3 others did nothing. Service has gotten VERY poor here! Finally threw our hands up and walked out. Very disappointed in the Athens Varsity! Will never go through that experience again! Shame on you, Varsity. Someone needs to take over and get this landmark back to where it use to be.

Chili dog and onion rings were good. Sweet tea was awesome. Loved the memorabilia from the 50's and 60's and the beach music.

I ordered a grilled cheese and it tasted processed and was extremely dry. Also I didn't feel very welcome. The only thing I liked was the overly expensive brownie.

Took my family to Athens Varsity and was VERY disappointed. First off the pitiful excuse of employes that were sitting on the counter barely moved when we came in. It was a Sunday afternoon and there was 4 employees sitting on the counter. ONE got up to ask what I would have. I ordered and as I was ordering a man came up to get a refill. He was charged $1.25 for a refill and he paid. WTH? I paid and thought it was odd because I have ate Varsity for years and never had to pay. I sent my son up there for his refill and promised him he wouldnt be charged but he came back to the table crying. I immediately went up to the counter and he had been told he wasnt getting his drink back unless he had .75 cents. I realized that the employees were charging for refills and not Varsity. i asked the Athens PD officer that was there if the manager was there and he said no. So there was no manager on duty with 8-12 employees working? Why do I need an Athens PD on patrol IN the restaurant anyway? They obviously hire the left overs from the other places in Athens that wouldn't take them. Calling the manager today and will update!

Not as big as the original location in Atlanta, this is still a great place to go eat. Greasy food that's as delicious as it is bad for you. Excellent spot to eat before a football game.

Fries were old and soft. Burger was terribly made and thrown onto a plate.

Once located across the street from the Arch downtown, this venue is on the outskirts of the main drag but it still offers a little something more than your typical fast food or even Five Guys on Broad. The service is great but the food is just as greasy and nasty as you'd expect from a fast-food style joint. The slaw and orange slushee thing are really the hidden gems of this place and I stop through on occasion just to get one or the other as a guilty pleasure.
