Citizens of Elgin, IL are looking to get involved with code enforcement.

"Frohlich and longtime friend Susan Giugliano want to form groups similar to Neighborhood Watches with the volunteers focused on code violations on the blocks where they live. "We would meet with code on a bimonthly basis and work within a set of parameters," Frohlich said. "We could be a second set of eyes, and this is a way to help as we've been told there are not enough code enforcement officers.""

"Another implementation would be starting a "Code Academy," which Community Development Director, Marc Mylott said initially would be a free, three- or four-hour session, offered twice a year. Attendees would learn about what the department does, about the nature of code and violations and what residents' roles can be in the process. "Residents could not only be another set of eyes for us, but also could play a role in preventing code violations," Mylott said."

Getting citizens involved in Code Enforcement could be a great way to create compliance awareness, and restore harmony to your community. To find out how UPsafety's code enforcement software can help restore harmony to your community, sign up for a FREE informational webinar today!

It's not secret that parking meters can be considered an annoyance by many patrons, but what about "kindness" meters? The city of Carlsbad, CA has installed 8 "kindness meters", parking meters which donate all of their profits straight to local charities. In the 5 months since their installation, these 8 meters have made more than $7,000 in donations.
Whether your community is using parking meters or kindness meters, UPsafety's mobile parking enforcement software can streamline your parking enforcement. Sign up for a FREE informational webinar today.
“Feeding the meter” is quickly become an act of kindness in San Diego’s North County. Tuesday, the Solana Beach City Council could make the beach community the latest city to add a “kindness meter” to its streets.

Annapolis, MD just unveiled three new parking meters which will donate all of their proceeds to help the homeless. For every $500 collected by these meters, the city of Annapolis will write a $500 check to the Light House Shelter.

We at UPsafety are very excited to see this new trend of parking meters being used to help those in need, and hope to see this trend continue in even more communities. To find out how UPsafety's municipal parking enforcement software can help streamline your community's parking enforcement system, sign up for a FREE informational webinar today at http://upsafety.net/contact/webinar-request-form/.
You probably assume all of the change placed into street parking meters goes back to the local government. But for one Maryland city, the money that is inserted into certain meters is actually going to another cause for the less fortunate.

Yesterday, a parking officer in Perth anonymously left flowers on the windshield of a frustrated patron in Perth.

"Ms Scenini was parked on Olive Street while attending a course in Subiaco until about 4pm. She said she had paid for her parking, but the printer on the parking machine wasn’t working. So she called the number listed for the ranger and he said he would leave her a “little something on her windscreen”. “I cut him off mid conversation and I said, ‘Oh really, flowers? Or chocolate or perfume? Because you guys have such a poor reputation of leaving really nasty things on peoples windscreens’,” Ms Scenini said. The note, left by an unnamed ranger, said: “roses are red violets are blue, these handpicked garden bed flowers, are from the ranger to you, kind regards.”Ms Scenini said she thought she would have to pay a fine, but the flowers and poem had made her day."

The city of Troy, NY is offering a 45-day amnesty period for unpaid parking tickets. Patrons can pay their violations for 40% off of the total cost until June 15. “It's hard to chase down old tickets,” said Troy Mayor Patrick Madden. “This is a way to incentivize people to come in, step up and say, ‘I didn't pay my ticket.’" “Now some of those [parking tickets] go way back,” Madden said. “Their collectability is highly questionable. We don't know what to expect. But frankly, anything is better than nothing.” Could an amnesty program such as this increase your community's parking revenue?
