Good episode and Ex Machina is a great film! From the phrase Deus ex machina which Wikipedia says is "a calque from Greek ἀπὸ μηχανῆς θεός, meaning "god from the machine". The term has evolved to mean a plot device whereby a seemingly unsolvable problem is suddenly and abruptly resolved by the contrived and unexpected intervention of some new event, character, ability or object"

Eraser head - a classic or garbage? I think the latter so find this article baffling - views anyone?

Good latest episode though would like possible spoiler alert when you cover recent films please! I've waiting to see the accountant on Sky... Would be even better to know exactly when that section ends so I can skip straight to it without missing any other good chat...

Anyway, top tit bit re one of the films you discussed. Arnie was originally going to play Kyle Rees in The Terminator. He banged on at Cameron about how the terminator character needed to be played so much that Cameron told him to do it! Imagine if he hadn't...how different would Arnie's career have been I wonder?!

Loved the latest episode - lots of films I like and a few new ones to check out. Spinal Tap is the former - and wasn't this the first 'mockumentary'? I.e. Comedy documentary that uses a very straight style, as most recently popularised by Ricky Gervais in The Office?

Anyone heard about the reminiscent bump? Heard it in a BBC podcast and found this about it. How many members don't show this? And if so what about the second one?

Aarrgh! You two – another great podcast I'll have to make time for! Nice problem to have though really... Knew this would happen hence avoiding till now so apologies for comments across a few episodes...

Chris Kelly – re. Blade Runner, I thought the replicants returned to earth to have their fixed lives extended...?

Regards remakes, I think the latest planet of the apes series is by far the best – and agree the Whalberg one is the worst. Surprised you didn't mention this...

I agreed with one of your previous guests that Memento is a great film. I have the DVD which also has the film with all the scenes forwards. Its not as good unsurprisingly but interesting to see.

I really enjoyed The Martian – not least as I heard an interview with the author of the book it's based on before the film was advertised. Wish I had time to read the book! See link to Skepticality below. The interview starts at 32:35

Also for a good review, including critical appraisal of the science in it see link below. The review starts at 39:30
