You can tell a lot about a dojo by how they welcome newcomers. I train in a more traditional style of jiu jitsu and was in town for a couple of days. I had been wanting to check out BJJ but just never got the chance. We do quite a bit of grappling so I figured I'd see what this Gracie thing was all about. I walked into the gym and was greeted by Armando. I asked if I might sit and watch a class and he asked if I had a gi. When I said yes, he immediately invited me to train with the class. I let him know that I was from out of town and offered to pay a drop in fee several times, but he graciously refused. Not in it for the money, check. You can also tell a lot by the attitude of the students. I rolled with several different people and never felt like anybody brought a big ego to the mat. They were all happy to roll with someone new and to share their love and knowledge of the art. It's a delicate balance training with new people and keeping everything safe and upbeat. These guys were great training partners. Friendly and humble students, check. Lastly, I got tapped out by everybody I rolled with and went home smiling and totally spent. These guys know their stuff. Based solely on my one-day experience, I'd say you could do a lot worse than to train with these folks. They have a great space, knowledgeable instructors and an open and friendly atmosphere, what more could you ask for?

They say the best time to start training Jiu Jitsu is at age 10...and today. I joined the Gracie Barra Pasadena family in April of this year. I was training at another local gym, and wanted to fully engulf myself in an all Jiu Jitsu school. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed with the facility, the coaches and the overall positive vibe and energy. Professor Orlando and Coach Armando have created an inviting atmosphere for everybody to train and learn this great martial art. What Coach Armando and the other coaches do with the kids classes is something to witness firsthand. The life lessons shared at mat time is another positive reinforcement to teach the kids. My girls have begun their journey into Jiu Jitsu and I couldn't have chosen a better place for them. The kids are all taught the same curriculum and to see them "spar" with each other is For the adults who think they are too old, too out of shape, or think it's not for them...TRY IT! Come in and try a class for free. All of the students who train at GB Pasadena are awesome! They are all willing to help each other with the techniques being taught. New friendships are forged on the mat too. There is no better feeling of accomplishment and self assurance you can receive than after doing a class at Gracie Barra Pasadena. Jiu Jitsu is not only good for the body, but also for your mind. Come see for yourself.

Gracie Barra Pasadena is a great place to train whether you're just starting to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or if you have had previous training. I just recently returned to the school after being away for work for 3 years. Training at other schools has made me appreciate how lucky I am to be able to train here. There is great instruction and great training partners. We emphasize a lot on practicing our technique through sparring and positional drilling, which in my opinion is the best way to learn BJJ.

I was looking for a place to train after taking time off from many years of Karate, and all I knew was that I wanted to study Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Having researched numerous academies in the Los Angeles area, I'd decided on Gracie Barra Pasadena, and although the reputation of Gracie Barra along with my personal history with the physical location had a lot to do with my choice, by far the most important factor was Professor Orlando Sanchez himself. Professor Orlando has an immense passion for life, his art, and sharing his knowledge with others. With this, he is able to explain the concepts and their subtleties to people of various levels. From day one he has always treated me as a good friend, and time has proven this is not an act designed to get money out of your bank account on a monthly basis. Professor Orlando is very approachable, and deeply cares about each and every one of his students. In this regard there are numerous witnesses to the many occasions he has gone far beyond the role of a martial arts instructor when it comes to the health and well-being of his students. He is also a multiple medal winner and world champion of numerous competitions including those held by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) and Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC). So we're definitely talking about a rare case a world champion really does being a great teacher or coach. As for the classes and training; All of the instructors are incredibly patient and caring, with student safety being one of the top priorities. Whether you're a little kid, someone just looking get in shape while learning to defend yourself, or a person looking to become a world class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor, the Gracie Barra curriculum and Gracie Barra Pasadena has something for you. Over the years I've come to realize that the number of black belts, trophies and medals isn't always a good way to measure the "strength" of a martial arts school. For me it's all about the number of (happy) women, children and "regular folks" who can effectively utilize what they have learned, and I'm not just talking about technique. If this is true, then Gracie Barra Pasadena is the strongest place around, and it speaks volumes about Professor Orlando as a human being, instructor, and leader. At Gracie Barra Pasadena, Professor Orlando Sanchez is on a mission to empower others, and build "Champions in Life" through "Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone."

I have been training at Gracie Barra Pasadena for over a year. Gracie Barra Pasadena is the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dojo in San Gabriel Valley. Jiu Jitsu is an excellent martial art for everybody and training at Gracie Barra will add a number of benefits to your life, including weight loss, overall fitness, confidence, and most importantly self defense. I recommend everybody in San Gabriel Valley check this place out. As far as kids martial arts go, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is number one since it will teach your kid self defense and instill in them a strong sense of confidence as well as discipline. The kids classes are nothing short of amazing and I recommend all parents I know living in San Gabriel Valley to give their kids a chance to learn a great self defense martial art at the best school that teaches it. There are also women's only classes. Training this martial art at Gracie Barra Pasadena will help with fitness, weight loss, self-confidence, and great self defense. Gracie Barra Pasadena has a great kids martial arts and self-defense program, a great women's only martial arts and self defense program, and it also has daily classes for everyone to train at. There is something for everyone, and everyone living in San Gabriel Valley should be training at Gracie Barra Pasadena!

Gracie Barra Pasadena has been a huge part of my life for two and a half years now. When I had first came to Gracie Barra Pasadena I already had experience of four years in Brazilian Jujitsu. I have learned more from this school in these two and a half years, then I had in those previous four years of Jujitsu. Everyone there is so positive and so willing to make you the best that you can possibly be. Everyone always wants to make you better whether it is the owner and professor, Orlando Sanchez or just one of the coaches, they are going to push you and make you better. Another thing besides Jujitsu that Gracie Barra Pasadena teaches is respect. Respect is something that is becoming lost in today's world, and GBP really gives you a true meaning of what respect means. It can be as simple as showing respect to your training area by bowing before you enter on the mat. GBP has quickly become my second family and I will always remember that. I will not only take away self defense lessons away from this, but valuable life lessons as well. Organized like a team, Fighting like a family!!!!

This gym is by far the best in my opinion. First of all 2 years ago I was looking for a new gym for my son from parting ways from XTC gym in eagle rock. So I got recommended to this gym from a family friend to check out this place. So I brought my son in and met with Professor Orlando Sanchez who was a coach back then, which I felt a good vibe with his and staff teaching skills towards the kids program. During the 2 years my son won a few tournaments and obtaining gold and silver medals, so I say this place is legit on building champions. Now my daughter and I are also training are under professor Sanchez, which made my family even closer. So this place is not only for training brazilian jiu jitsu, you learn everything to deal with life struggles and it makes you be better on your everyday lifestyle. I'm proud to be part of the GB Pasadena family which I gained a lot of great GB brothers and sisters. So come down and check this place out for yourself and you won't be disappointed... I GUARANTEE IT!!! As Professor Orlando Sanchez says "Champions in Life", it's so true!!!
