Who doesn’t love summertime? There are many fun activities to do and parties to attend to. However, we must also be careful with the heat of the sun. UV rays can be dangerous to our skin and to our body. Studies show that more than 90 percent of skin damage is caused by exposure to sun’s heat.

Here are some of the effects of sun exposure:

Sunburn

Wear sunglasses to protect the skin around your eyes.
Put moisturizer on your lips and face.
Wear sunscreen when you’re out.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ANTIDEPRESSANTS

It is common for the seniors to suffer depression. If your senior loved ones are suffering from depression, part of the treatment is taking an antidepressant.

Antidepressants help relieve symptoms of depression and alter chemicals in the brain that affect the mood and emotions. They do not take effect immediately. It takes days, even weeks, before one can feel the effects of the medication. Some doctors would recommend for antidepressants to be taken every day.

During the medication, do not be surprised if you suffer some changes in your body. These changes are due to the side effects of antidepressants. These side effects may be long term or short term and they differ from one person to another.

Here are some of the common side effects of antidepressants:

Poor eyesight
Anxiety
Weight gain
Constipation
Decrease in sexual appetite and other sexual problems
Lightheadedness

Some side effects last during the entire medication while others only last for a few days. When you experience severe body disorder due to the side effects, call your doctor and discuss if he can prescribe another medication.

HOW TO: PREVENTING ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE

Antibiotic resistance happens when an antibiotic no longer has the effect of killing the bacteria inside our body. The bacteria are already “resistant” and still continue to grow even with the use of an antibiotic.

Fortunately, antibiotic resistance may be prevented. However, once you already have this, the process of removing resistance on the bacteria is slower.

Here are some tips on how to prevent antibiotic resistance:

Maintain good hygiene. You will not be prone to any diseases and there is a lesser need to take antibiotics.

Talk to your doctor and ask for an alternative medicine to make you feel better aside from taking antibiotics.

Never take antibiotics that are not appropriate for your illness. This may cause the bacteria to multiply.

Do not store antibiotics in your house and have it the next time you get sick.

Once you’re done with your treatment, throw the remaining antibiotics.

Take medication as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the exact doses and frequency. Even if you are feeling better, complete the course of your treatment because some bacteria might survive.

WARNING: DRUGS THAT DO NOT GO TOGETHER

Many of us commit the mistake of mixing drugs with other drugs thinking that it will help us recover with the illness faster. But what you don’t know is that there are drugs that should not be combined together. If they are, several adverse effects may occur in your body which are detrimental to your health.

Here is a list of drugs and the dangers they pose when combined together:

Medicines for diabetes and Aspirin. Possible fainting and lightheadedness may occur. Aspirin also lessens the effect of diabetes medicines.
Antibiotics and Antacids. The chemical content found in Antacids makes the antibiotic ineffective. It prevents the body from digesting the antibiotic.
Painkillers that contain Acetaminophen and Acetaminophen. This combination increases the risk of liver damage.
Gingko and Aspirin. These two should not be taken together. The danger is when bleeding problems are increased.
Antidepressants and Decongestants which contain pseudoephedrine. There is a potentially deadly increase in your blood pressure once these two are combined.

Should you have questions regarding the drugs that you are taking, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. Dial 732-561-3339. We’d be more than willing to help you. # EZHealthMartPharmacy
