By putting together ebay, paypal, and recent acquisitions like GSI, into the x.commerce platform, ebay wants to enable merchants. Unlike Amazon, ebay doesn't compete with its merchants.
A really interesting play. As Amazon becomes more and more dominant in e-commerce, ebay is trying to become a resource to all the offline retailers Amazon is crushing.
