Need for Marketing Research

For a marketer, the 4 P’s of Product, Place, Price & Promotion play a significant role. Besides, it is also necessary to go back and find whether the consumer is getting optimum satisfaction, so that he/she remains loyal. These aspects made it imperative for the marketers to conduct marketing research.
The following points will explain the importance of marketing research:

1. Determining consumer needs and wants:
Marketing has become customer-centric. Due to prevalence of multi channels of distribution, there is an information gap. Marketing research helps in collecting information on consumers from structured distribution research and helps in making marketing customer oriented.

2. Formulating market strategies:
In today’s markets, competition is severe and the consumer needs are difficult to predict. The marketing intelligence provided through marketing research not only helps in framing but also in implementing the market strategies.

3. For sales forecasting:
Keeping optimum levels of inventory is a challenge in today’s world. Therefore, scientific forecast of sales is required. Marketing research helps in sales forecasting by using sales force estimate method, market share method nd jury method.

4. To revitalize brands:
Marketing research is used to study and find out the existing brand position. It explores the possibilities of brand extension or prospects of changing existing brand names. Marketing research helps in developing techniques to popularize and retain brand loyalty, which is of high priority to any brand.

5. To facilitate smooth introduction of new products:
Marketing research helps in finding out consumer response to new product and in developing a suitable marketing mix. Thus, it controls the risk involved in introducing a new product.

6. Managerial decision-making:
Marketing research plays a vital role in the decision-making processes by supplying relevant, up-to-date and accurate data to the decision-makers. With the current and accurate data, managers can tweak their strategies with respect to a product launch, brand extension, brand positioning etc.

What is a Good project Management Team ?

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

All the classroom knowledge comes to no use if not supplemented with the right amount of fieldwork.

Project management is one such area where all theories may fall flat when real execution is required.

Here are a few pointers to note which may not be taught in any curricula:

The Right Team

Having the correct people on board is certainly a big plus. Correct meaning, having the right attitude, skill sets, motivation, passion and the other related jargons that you can think of. Selecting the right people is probably the most time consuming and crucial task that any manager needs to undertake. Overall efficiency gets increased significantly by engaging a competent team.

Letting Go
Not only is hiring the correct people important, but also is firing them at the right time. One has to learn how to say ‘No’ or ‘Stop’ before saying ‘Yes’ or ‘Go’. Having an unproductive employee or member is like a disease, which can jeopardize the entire project. Both the project as well as the employee himself stands to lose from a non-performing project. A pragmatic manager will always find the right way to show the door to an employee.

Adapt
There are situations where, a project plan has been devised by someone, but is being executed by someone else. Given the current business environment, it is important that people not fret over the original plan itself, but focus more on the execution bit. Along the course, there are bound to be discoveries, changes, lessons and mistakes. Adapting to these changes is crucial from the project’s point of view.

Project management involves the above and things like delegating, negotiating, managing the boss, improving skill sets etc. A combination of these and a bit of luck should see one through!
