Ran across this old clip of "Steve Jobs" "resigning" in 2007. Really great.

Interesting article on innovation in large media companies, worth a read. Amazingly, the NYT is given as an example of doing something right. I am not saying that I think the NYT is doing anything wrong, or is badly run, etc. - it just seems that in articles like this, the NYT is always the example of what is wrong.

News organizations have an innovation problem. Especially print media. As they gingerly wade into digital, their ability to

Went to yoga on the beach again this AM. Got about halfway thru the class before a sideways rain squall chased everyone away. I was willing to stay, it was really beautiful in its way.

We are packing up now to head to Sydney.

Sorry for the dump of posts here, but internet is spotty on this trip. We are paying by the hour for slow, crappy wireless. It took hours for the iPad video to upload. And most annoying, you can only have one device on line at a time. Now I am gonna sign out of the laptop and upload some pictures to Flickr from the iPhone.

On Friday, I got up early (well, I am always awake early from jet lag) and went down to the beach for a yoga class. The beaches here in in Port Douglas have hard packed sand that you can ride a bicycle on. It was a nice class,in a beautiful setting ("turn your hips to face the ocean"), the weather went from a light drizzle to clear blue skys during shivasana. After that, we took another drive out to the area of north of Port Douglas, and took another river tour looking for crocodiles. I can now say I saw two tree snakes mating while on vacation.

Wednesday Tom and I went for a quick swim in the Coral Sea/South Pacific Ocean. Then we got into the car and drove north to a riverboat tour to see crocodiles and other wildlife. We where lucky and got to see a handful hanging out on the shore line of the river. We then took a small ferry across the Daintree River to Daintree National Park. We took a couple of walks thru rain forests, which were amazingly varied.

Check out this interactive chart showing the profits/revenue/price/etc of the big companies in the smart phone business. You can see how Apple came out of nowhere to take much of the profits and revenue in only a couple of years. Change the settings to see different views.

You know, sometimes it feels like everything here in Australia can kill you . There are plants that will give you an electric shock. Even the koala had to be held a very specific way. The jelly fish have a poison that can paralyse your heart. We are not in "stinger season" right now, but during that time of the year, everyone who swims wears a stinger suit. Most of the plants that we saw along the river tour were poisonous. Check out the signs near the beach. It is not even worth mentioning the rip current.

Thursday morning we woke to some light rain. We had booked an all day trip on a boat the Great Barrier Reef and tried to reschedule to Friday, but were not able to. As we boarded the boat, every crew member said "I strongly suggest to take the seasickness medication." So Tom and I both took the pills and found seats in the front lower level of the boat. I ate a muffin.

The boat got underway, and it was pretty rough due to the wind and waves. About 15 minutes into hour plus ride out to the reef, Tom started sweating. A few minutes later he turned a bit green, and shortly after he got sea sick. He spent the rest of the ride outside on the back of the boat.

Tom and I both learned that the Great Barrier Reef is no place to learn how to scuba dive. The waters are very choppy, and trying to master the basic scuba skills was not in the cards for us. It was fun to try, and we instead snorkeled around the reef and got to seen some amazing sites. We had nice lunch on the boat and spent the ride back chatting with the crew in the skipper's area of the boat. Tom managed to bring lunch all the way home.

Thursday night, we think we saw an asteroid fly by from the beach. I also got a good look at the Southern Cross. I took a shaky 15 second exposure.
