Thursday morning we woke to some light rain. We had booked an all day trip on a boat the Great Barrier Reef and tried to reschedule to Friday, but were not able to. As we boarded the boat, every crew member said "I strongly suggest to take the seasickness medication." So Tom and I both took the pills and found seats in the front lower level of the boat. I ate a muffin.
The boat got underway, and it was pretty rough due to the wind and waves. About 15 minutes into hour plus ride out to the reef, Tom started sweating. A few minutes later he turned a bit green, and shortly after he got sea sick. He spent the rest of the ride outside on the back of the boat.
Tom and I both learned that the Great Barrier Reef is no place to learn how to scuba dive. The waters are very choppy, and trying to master the basic scuba skills was not in the cards for us. It was fun to try, and we instead snorkeled around the reef and got to seen some amazing sites. We had nice lunch on the boat and spent the ride back chatting with the crew in the skipper's area of the boat. Tom managed to bring lunch all the way home.
Thursday night, we think we saw an asteroid fly by from the beach. I also got a good look at the Southern Cross. I took a shaky 15 second exposure.
