The folks at Conveyal have come up with Disser, a very useful command line tool written in Java that disaggregates numbers assigned to polygons based on more-fine grained geometries. The example they use in their blog post is disaggregating the number of p

Developments in mobile and surveying technologies over the past decade have enabled the collection of Individuallevel geographic information at unprecedented scale. While this large pool of information is extremely valuable to answer scientific questions about human behavior and interaction, privacy intrusion is an imminent risk when detailed individual travel patterns are used for commercial purposes such as customer profiling, or even for political persecution. The GeoPrivacy workshop will hence focus on discussing methods to protect individual’s privacy in geographic information collection and analysis.

Eric will give us an overview of the Free & Open Source Software for Geospatial Applications (FOSS4G) terrain, followed by a few examples of workflow. What tools are out there for making useful and interesting online maps? What is “open source” software and how is it different from other software? Where does it fit in with the history of web mapping, who are the people (and what is the technology) on the cutting edge?

Eric will then discuss which programs talk to each other, what types of things you can do with each platform. He’ll talk about (and hopefully have time to walk us through) CartoDB (and cartocss), geojson, TileMill, and more, depending on what we have time to cover. If there’s interest, he can go over using javascript libraries like leaflet to customize these online maps.
This Hangout On Air is hosted by Carson Farmer. The live video broadcast will begin soon.
