Why go Solar? Is it cost effective? We live in Nevada, which has sunlight for most of the year. For people in these type of circumstances.

Going Solar might be the way to go.
Solar is renewable.
It reduces our Carbon Footprint.
It really is the most cost effective solution for the long term.
Better for the Planet, Reduces emissions.

But it needs to happen on a large scale to have an effect.

Here are some reasons to go solar

Your energy costs stay at the same rate.
Once your system is paid off most of your energy costs are gone.
You can be off the grid, immune to power outrages. (Or shutdown by other Sources)

Here is a short video of our Solar Install.

Climate Change (takes on a new Meaning)

There are still to many discussions on climate change, it is here, last year we had several large Hurricanes, and the especially hard hit Puerto Rico. Climate change is associated with bigger storms, and hotter global temperatures, rising ocean temperatures. The questions still remain, what are we going to do about it?
We need to get fresh blood in the game, with more working WOMEN and men with diverse backgrounds and cultures in Local, State, and National government. This will not happen overnight, but the change must start now, otherwise, Climate Change, Immigration, Jobs, Health care and a fair working wage, and the planet are at risk.

It’s tomato season. Michael and I have managed to drag ourselves out of bed early a few day and made several trips out to Gilcrease Orchard to pick tomatoes. The plants are falling over under the weight of all the ripe tomatoes and you have to get out early to pick before it heats up!

While Michael was set to make tomato sauce, I needed something a little more creative and started researching tomato jams. Then…I came across a recipe for tomato marmalade and I was hooked. I had to make it. The recipe however was by a jam and jelly expert and was a two day process. Unfortunately, that did not fit in my schedule, so I searched and found a recipe to adapt, and here’s how it goes….

August 1st is "Albariño Day". To celebrate, we are doing a group blog post with some of our friends who are wine bloggers, organized by Andrew over at Wine Thirty Flight. Now Andrew and team are experts on Spanish wines and so Albariño is one of their deep loves. To get us in the mood we thought we would dive back into some of our favorite Albariños.

Root vegetables, like carrots and beets are great at soaking up lots of flavors and making a great base for a condiment. I found a recipe and then riffed on it, which you should feel free to do also!

This Vinho Verde is from Espiral. The wine is bright and when I close my eyes I can feel sea spray flying up from where it is crashing on the wet rocks (there’s my mini vacation). In my mouth it fizzes and opens with a bright tangy citrus. It’s lemon pop without the sweetness or the tartness of “Fresca” (who remembers Fresca?) without the bitterness. It’s joyful as well as thoughtful. The initial sip brings a smile that almost erupts to a giggle and then melts into a quiet moment of savoring, like closing your eyes to capture a moment at sunset on the beach. That…that is what is here in this glass, that balance of euphoric joy and a content sense of peace. See what we chose to pair with this wine, and see what paired well.
