Spectators watch the action during Lone Star Le Mans Weekend, September 17th, 2016. The view from the top of the Circuit of the Americas tower is pretty spectacular and definitely offers a very different perspective on the racing than you get when trackside.

Continuing the series of images of the iconic tower at Circuit of the Americas, here's one from underneath it. The Austin 360 Amphitheater is directly behind me here and the tower's "tail" swoops over the roof of the stage.

If you're heading to any event at Circuit of the Americas, make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes. I typically clock in excess of 10 miles a day when shooting at the track even when I'm not doing a great deal of running between locations. One are that you'll almost certainly find yourself in is one on of the footbridges that cross between the Grand Plaza and the highly photogenic turn 3/4/5 complex (the area with the great coloured stripes and good light in the afternoon). Here's a view of spectators at last year's US Grand Prix trekking up the stairs to the bridge by the T15 grandstands and the tower.

Nico Rosberg of Mercedes AMG Petronas, 2016 Formula 1 Drivers' Champion seen during last October's United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas. This is another shot taken from the general admission area at Turn 6. The hill there gives you enough elevation to allow dramatic use of the red, white and blue stripes that line the track through the S-curve section.

A wise photographer once told me to make sure to always shoot both horizontal and vertical compositions of any scene so that you were ready for either a cover or a two-page spread. I obviously took his advice - you can find a horizontal version of this shot at http://www.davewilsonphotography.com/2016/03/24/textures-of-the-palouse/.

This was taken from the top of Steptoe Butte in eastern Washington's Palouse region just before sunset during our 2015 "NxNW" photoblogger trip. The views from the butte were so spectacular, we visited it twice during our 4 day trip.
