When you pull off some wool from the roving, you should hold your hands further apart. You want to pull the strands away from each other. If you hold them so close together, you'll break individual fibers of wool, and that's not what you want. It's also much harder. The fibers should just drift apart if you're doing it right.

I don't think I caught your name from Knitting Paradise, but I certainly remember you.

I got the idea from the two vertical cables in Viking Knitting that are mirror images and have the three loops of the Saint John's cross. What you're looking at is the top of a hood. You can't see it when the hood is worn up, but when it's down, it's visible from the back.

I knitted the front band in one strip, and ran the two stitches for the cable off and then back on the edge. Those plastic removable stitch markers that look like really short safety pins are great for holding two stitches like that.

Then I picked up stitches along the edge, and just continued those two sets of two stitches into the cross motif. I think she shows one with three loops knit in this direction, too. Combining them was the tricky part.

I can do a lot of things that surprise other knitters, but I think that Celtic knots are getting to be the best thing I do.

I really want to see that afghan when you're done with it!

I found a group of people who were looking for a knitting pattern for a Harry Potter scarf, so I wrote one for the scarf that I've knit again and again. I'm going to try to attach the URL in clickable form, but in case it doesn't come up (like it didn't earlier), here it is: http://jam2day.blogspot.com/2011/07/harry-potter-scarf.html

I added a link to a watch cap in a new post today that could match the scarf if knit in the same colors.

That's Paton's Classic Wool Tweed. I love it for something like this. It's the traditional off-white, but it has tweedy flecks in various shades of blue.

AC Moore is the only local place I've found it, and they're not carrying this color anymore. I don't know if it's a discontinued color or not.

You can find out more about this if you check out my blog at: http://jam2day.blogspot.com/2008/08/celtic-sweater-in-progress.html

There are a lot of photos, too.

My TiVo hasn't been working properly this week. It goes off after anywhere from a few seconds to 10 minutes and sometimes restarts, sometimes has to be manually unplugged and replugged in.

I went to Comcast today and got a temp DVR to replace it while I return it, but I have to retract all the bad things I said about TiVo, and say them about Comcast instead. The Comcast DVR won't even start up! What ever Comcast is doing, it's affecting their own DVRs even more than the TiVo!

I'm hearing that this is a good book for those suffering Harry Potter withdrawal.

Sorry, the link didn't come up with the comment. The book is Miss Peregrin's Home for Peculiar Children.

Story
Introduction
Born & lived in Philadelphia until 12, then moved to Maple Shade, NJ. Got a job as a tech illustrator before I was out of high school.

Joined the Air Force and was stationed at Charleston AFB, where I met Al Mitchell and got married.

I have a daughter named Holly who now lives in DC.

Lived in France for a year, and then, later in Aspen Hill, Silver Spring, Adelphi, and Greenbelt, MD. Bounced back and forth between the DC area and South Jersey/Philly areas for quite a few years.

Got involved in science fiction conventions (helped put on several) and SF fandom in general and worked on a few SF/horror movies.

I was involved in SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism--recreating the Middle Ages and Renaissance) for a few years, but can't afford it anymore. I still love living in the modern Middle Ages, though.

I have a lot more time for fiberarts now that I'm retired. Mainly, I knit, but also spin, crochet, weave, lucet, etc., etc.
