Be Sure Your #LintonLies Will Find You Out
You've all heard the story before. Young, attractive, fish-out-of-water is faced with a terrible situation. Deep in the jungle, facing crocodiles, lions, 12-inch spiders, crazed militiamen brandishing AK-47s. Facing trouble on all sides, and given the optio...

I wish I had the audio for this sermon - better than just printed (even when I was using a translator).
2 Peter 1:3-4 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious prom...

Junior High Boys
It is official. We have a junior high boy in our family (no, besides me). Our oldest son's voice changed recently (funny when he gets called out for talking during a school assembly because he's the only one with a bass voice), and now he sounds like me. Hi...

The Holy Spirit is a Person!
Have you ever met your hero? When I was fourteen years old, one of my heroes was American football star, Jim McMahon. In January he had led his team, the Chicago Bears, to the championship, and in March, he came to my hometow...

To Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the earth.
Acts 1:1-11 Last week we met up in Kabangwe for the Holy Spirit Encounter. Pastor Blake worked hard to help you understand that the Holy Spirit is calling Christians to lead in ministry, to take the Good News of Jesus Christ ...

Lafarge Lusaka Marathon, Take 2
Last year I ran the Lafarge Lusaka Marathon pretty much on the spur of the moment. Though I ran a good race (pretty well untrained), the experience itself was terrible. Bad traffic, a difficult course with no signage, and an awful finishing experience made ...

In uncertain and violent times, be strong and courageous.
Joshua 1:6-9 We face uncertain times. Our world is showing itself to be an unsafe place. Over the last weeks, during a holiday celebration in France, a terrorist killed 80 people by driving his truck through the crowds ...

Walking with the Holy Spirit is the only way to find freedom.
This week I got to see an amazing sight. I got to see two full grown cheetahs. They were big, majestic, and muscular. There was only one unfortunate thing. They were shut into a fenced-in enclosure. Now, that was probably a g...

Get Outta Town
Something we've always liked doing is day trips. In Ohio, we tried to find all the historical sites near enough to drive to, especially if there was hiking available. This week's trip was a day trip to Chaminuka, a game park and lodge near Lusaka. It's only...

Here is Pentecost Sunday's sermon. The full Lectionary text was Acts 2:1-21, but that was too much material for one sermon, so I focused on the first four verses.
Acts 2:1-4 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed...

Isuzu ISL Ultra Marathon Race Recap
I had never run an ultra before. I had run six marathons: Columbus (twice), Kentucky Derby Festival, Erie Marathon at Presque Isle, Lafarge Lusaka (Zambia), and Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe). My friends are training for Comrades Marathon, 90 km in South Africa....

I went through the drive thru, which was a mistake - it took nearly 20 minutes... but that was the best part of this visit. The oaf at the drive-thru window dumped my large Coke in my lap and never even apologized. All he did was give me a handful of napkins. I went in to wipe up in the bathroom and to cool down before I talked to the manager, who at least apologized and gave me my money back. DON'T GO TO THIS McDONALD'S.
