Yaupon holly (which has the unfortunate binomial "Ilex vomitoria") growing by the front gate on my family's estate in southwest Austin. To my eye, the berries are rather more orange than red, but the photos don't really show it. I would love to plant this in a row alternating with Beautyberry ("Callicarpa") someday.

There really ought to be a book or a blog called "Stupid Laser Tricks." This one is a noble addition to the genre:

I have been a raving Fallout fan for years, and though it has pretty much killed my productivity this month (and will likely be putting a major dent in it for some time to come), I'm immensely grateful to Bethesda and *47* Communications for sending me an advance copy of +Fallout 4 earlier this month.

My better half and I have put in almost 70 hours of gameplay, at this point, and I think we've really only just scratched the surface of this amazing game. I've posted some early general impressions, plus a huge roundup of some of the amazing fandom projects the franchise has inspired through the years, over at MAKE:

Stoked to have received my +Fallout 4 advance copy Friday. I got absolutely nothing done this weekend and would cheerfully not do all those things again. It goes on sale October 11. Got a piece about the new game and the history of franchise fandom prop and costume builds coming out that day on +Make:. If you've seen an especially cool Fallout build please send it my way!

+Popular Science just released a video build of my "Flameless Hack-o'-Lantern" project from the October issue, linked below. Props to +Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories for parts and inspiration.

If anybody with a first-generation +Raspberry Pi  needs to replace a broken SD card reader, the part is number is Harwin M5026860942. They are out of production, but you can snag 'em on eBay, and it's an easy swap if you've got basic soldering chops and gear. Relevant links in the comments. I was originally interested in finding a more expensive, tougher part with the same footprint, but that's looking pretty unlikely.

Beautiful handmade surprise in Saturday's mail from a dear friend. This is a lovely piece of ‪#‎mathematical‬ ‪#‎art‬ ‪#‎crochet‬ based on the techniques from Daina Taimina's book, "Crocheting Adventures With Hyperbolic Planes." Absolutely made my weekend
