Raising funds to help find new cures for leukaemia

In April 2013, following the birth of his son, Graham Dickinson was unexpectedly diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia. Graham tells us how he’s already raised over £5,000 for Leuka – leading leukaemia research and why he’s determined to help improve treatment for those less fortunate than himself.

"Why I'm running a double 10k for Leuka"

Finbarr Cotter is Professor of Haematology at Barts Hospital and Editor-in-Chief of BloodMed. Here he tells us why he’s chosen Leuka as his charity to support in memory of his Mother.

“My daughter and I decided to run a double 10k for the charity Leuka in memory of my mother Audrey who died of acute leukaemia a year ago, and of my father Eoin who also died of blood cancer 30 years ago.

This is the first anniversary of my Mother’s death and I wanted to raise money for leukaemia research that would make a real difference – Leuka is just brilliant and nearly all donations go to research. I’m a blood cancer consultant at Barts Hospital and because Leuka does so well in getting new treatments to patients – I know that my support will make a difference.

The British 10k London Run was a fantastic event and my daughter Sorcha came 30th overall for women and Sally, from Net-a-Porter (Leuka is their Charity of the Year), was only 5 minutes behind her!

Leuka is a great charity to support and it really was a pleasure.”
