Sushi Burgers Are the Next Big Culinary Mash-Up

"The sushi burger can be made with any of the typical ingredients found in a sushi roll.

Any combination of salmon, crab, tuna, avocado, or cucumber can be substituted for a traditional beef patty, but there's one component of the sushi burger that always remains the same.

Instead of wheat buns, the sandwich is served on two cakes of sticky rice that can either be served as they are or crisped up on a griddle.

And just like the two foods that inspired it, a sushi burger is best topped with sesame seeds..."

Lentil Patties with Homemade Tomato Sauce

In our home we are being creative with lentils, because we love them and have them once or twice a week...and we don't like to eat the same dish over and over.

The first time I created this lentil patties recipe, frankly, I didn’t expect them to be SO delicious!

I have actually adapted one of our favorite tajines of lamb balls with eggs... and it tastes great with lentils (and without the eggs).

But the cumin powder and tomato sauce enhance the flavor of the lentils, and these patties are now a family favorite.

+Loretta Sebastiani do you make these in Italy somewhere?
Here people eat lots of lentils but don't make these.

Serves 4 – Total time 30 min
500g cooked lentils, unsalted
1 onion
2 cloves garlic
½ tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp cumin powder
1 tbsp parsley, chopped (fresh or dry)
2 tsp unrefined sea salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 egg
2 tbsp olive oil for frying
For the tomato sauce:
4 medium tomatoes
1 onion
1 tbsp olive oil
1 pinch of thyme
sea salt, black pepper

First, you will prepare the tomato sauce. Chop onion, garlic and tomatoes coarsely.

Heat the olive oil in a pan and add onion, garlic, tomatoes, and thyme. Season with sea salt and black pepper, to taste. Stir well, cover and cook for about 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, you will make the lentil patties.

Slice onion and garlic and cook in the olive oil for about 5 minutes until light golden.

In a food processor, place cooked lentils, onion and garlic, cumin powder, parsley, salt and pepper. Process until you get a rather smooth mixture.

Place the mixture in a bowl. Add the egg and mix well.

With a spoon, make lentil patties and place them on a cutting board.

Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Cook patties, in batches, for about 2 minutes on each side.

While the patties are cooking, transfer the cooked tomato sauce to a food processor and process until you get a smooth sauce.

To serve, place patties on each plate and spoon over tomato sauce. Serve with long-grain or basmati rice.
