M31 Andromeda Galaxy
Image contains M 31 Great Nebula in Andromeda, NGC224, M32, NGC221, M110, NGC205

The Andromeda Galaxy is a spiral galaxy approximately 2.5 million light-years away in the Andromeda constellation. Also known as Messier 31, M31, or NGC224, it is often referred to as the Great Andromeda Nebula. The Andromeda Galaxy is the nearest spiral galaxy to our Milky Way galaxy, but not the closest galaxy overall. The Andromeda Galaxy is the largest galaxy of the Local Group, which also contains the Milky Way, the Triangulum Galaxy, and about 30 other smaller galaxies. Although the largest, the Andromeda Galaxy may not be the most massive, as recent findings suggest that the Milky Way contains more dark matter and could be the most massive in the grouping. The 2006 observations by the Spitzer Space Telescope revealed that M31 contains one trillion stars at least.

NGC7000 North American Nebula And The Cygnus Wall In Tricolour
Image contains NGC7000, NGC6989, NGC6996, NGC6997, IC5068, IC5070, 57 Cyg

The North America Nebula, NGC7000 or Caldwell 20, is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus, close to Deneb. The remarkable shape of the nebula resembles that of the continent of North America, complete with a prominent Gulf of Mexico. The North America Nebula is large, covering an area of more than four times the size of the full moon; but its surface brightness is low, so normally it cannot be seen with the unaided eye. Cygnus's Wall is a term for the "Mexico and Central America part" of the North America Nebula and exhibits the most concentrated star formations in the nebula.

IC5070 Pelican Nebula In Tricolour
Image contains NGC 6997, IC5070 and IC5067 Pelican nebulae, 57Cyg, 56Cyg

The Pelican Nebula, catalogued as IC 5070 and IC 5067, is an Ha region associated with the North America Nebula in the constellation Cygnus. The gaseous contortions of this emission nebula bear a resemblance to a pelican, giving rise to its name. The Pelican Nebula is located nearby first magnitude star Deneb, and is divided from its more prominent neighbour, the North America Nebula, by a molecular cloud filled with dark dust.

NGC6888 Crescent Nebula
The Crescent Nebula, catalogued as NGC 6888, Caldwell 27, and Sharpless 105, is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus, about 5000 light years away. It is formed by the fast stellar wind from the Wolf-Rayet star WR 136 (HD 192163) colliding with and energizing the slower moving wind ejected by the star when it became a red giant around 250,000 years ago. The result of the collision is a shell and two shock waves, one moving outward and one moving inward, the inward moving shock wave heats the stellar wind to X-ray-emitting temperatures.

IC405 Flaming Star Nebula
Image contains IC 405, 19Aur, 16Aur
IC 405 Flaming Star Nebula (also SH 2-229 or Caldwell 31) is an emission/reflection nebula in the constellation Auriga, surrounding the bluish star AE Aurigae. It surrounds the irregular variable star AE Aurigae and is located near the emission nebula IC 410, the open clusters M38 and M36. The nebula measures approximately 37.0' x 19.0', and lies about 1,500 light-years away and is about 5 light-years across.

NGC7822 Emission Nebula
NGC7822 is a young star forming complex in the constellation of Cepheus. The complex encompasses the emission region designated Sharpless 171, and the young cluster of stars named Berkeley 59. The complex is believed to be some 3,000 light-years distant, with the younger components aged no more than a few million years. The complex also includes one of the hottest stars discovered which is one of the primary sources illuminating the nebula.

IC1318 Butterfly Nebula
Image contains NGC 6910, gamma Cyg nebula, IC 1318, Sadr (γCyg)
The Sadr region, catalogue number IC 1318, is the diffuse emission nebula surrounding Sadr or Gamma Cygni. IC1318 lies in the center of Cygnus's cross and this image shows the Butterfly Nebula. The region contains many dark nebulae in addition to the emission diffuse nebulae.

NGC6962 Eastern Veil Nebula In Tri-colour (OHS Palette)
Image contains Veil nebula, NGC 6995, Network nebula, NGC 6992, IC 1340
The Veil Nebula is a cloud of heated and ionized gas and dust in the constellation Cygnus of which the Eastern Veil Nebula is part. It constitutes the visible portions of the Cygnus Loop, a large but relatively faint supernova remnant. The source supernova exploded some 5,000 to 8,000 years ago, and the remnants have since expanded to cover an area roughly 3 degrees in diameter. The distance to the nebula is not precisely known, but data suggests a distance of about 1,470 light-years.
