We’re discussing:  The Challenges of Leadership and today, I have a few thoughts regarding quitting and knowing when to do it.

1. Quit when your faced with a roadblock that can’t be passed.  Asses all alternative options and proceed along the path that will yield the most fruitful circumstances to your goal.

2.  Quitting is wonderful when you do so to make room for improvements, progress, and innovation.  Surprise yourself and refine yourself, quit the stuff that isn’t working and spend more time on the stuff that is.

3. Great leaders know when to quit, and they’d rather quit now than later.  A poor leader never quits, because their ego is too large to compensate.  The ends justify the means, and when your to big to quit and find better alternatives to your endgame, then your allowing the means to justify the end, which is poor leadership.

Know when to say, “I’ve bitten more off than I can chew” or “The timing isn't right” or “This isn’t yielding the results I prefer” and step back and try a new route to your goal.

What problem is there that you exist to solve? A good purpose is about others, not about yourself. It’s about your contribution to the community and to the world. What is your contribution? Are you here to bring joy to people’s lives? Are you here to help ease their pain? Are you here to show people that dreams come true? Do you help people to live healthy full lives? Do you exist to help people become more productive? A business exists to make money, sure, but a human being exists to contribute to humankind.

Confidence is the single most important factor in any successful venture, are you confident in the direction you are moving, are you confident in those who surround you and lift you up, are you confident in yourself? This is not an accident, it’s a decision, and it’s time to make that decision for your life, your story, and your brand!
