As they say in science, "he's not even wrong." Another version of "you have to be in the ballpark to play the game."

You have an odd view of reality. Do you know how that came about? What happened to you that drove you into this corner. Just watching your timid delivery makes me worry about your stability. Are you feeling okay? Do you need help?

He began by complaining about the potential of an increased national minimum wage; said that it would cost a lot of jobs. When pointed out that experience has shown otherwise, it didn't faze him. He said that a high minimum w...

Today's news brings research reports that A) warfare helped propelled the creation of large, complex societies; and B) that the human population explosion began before the advent of farming. That got me thinking about Göbekli...

The other day I was behind a bumper-sticker which read: Equal rights for all species. My first thought was, had I run across a hitherto undetected sect of Jains, or was it some New Ager from Eugene? My second thought was, rea...

I always love what people choose to do, if they think there's no free will. "Read pornography and drink lemonade"? He'd do that? That's his idea of the most fun thing to do? What's worse, he thinks admitting that is a clever argument. Not to mention, what's preventing him from reading pornography and drinking lemonade now? You know what they say, if life gives you lemonade, remember where they came from.

Forest for the tress man! He's also unkempt but so what? The beauty -since there's nothing else really worth discussing, if there's any in his argument is that predestination should engender the birth of freedom in a sense. I don't share his protestant leanings but that's a paradox worth pointing out - I did like what you said about lemonade, hadn't heard that version.

I miss Christopher Hitchens, I do. He was a pit bull who would give no quarter. He'd get an idea by the throat and shake it to death. He was fun to watch. He was erudite to a fault and wasted no time letting his opponents kno...

There is no crisis in education in America. American schools do precisely what they're designed to do and for the most part they do it well. After all, they've given us everything we have. You may not like everything it gives...

The states are in a tizzy these days trying to determine the proper amount of TCH one can have in one's system before one is considered impaired. Perhaps the most interesting part of the discussion is that no one is questioni...

The following is an open letter to Michael White, author of Acid Tongues and Tranquil Dreamers. An entertaining read but incredibly poorly edited. It's as if no one had any idea what commas are for. “…The fact that, in gener...

Absolutely shocking. One has never eaten so well on the Oregon Coast, and few places anywhere in Oregon. This was so good we decided to stay for dessert, something we rarely do; and, boy, were we rewarded. Doubly shocking to find it in Seaside, of all towns, the saltwater taffy capital of Oregon. The onion tart got lost in the tongue's delirium, a crust so ephemeral it melted. The creme brulee slumped under its brittle shell toward crimson dots of berry coulis. If Yummy has one drawback, it's distance from my home.
