The entire area is low lying and marshy, water is everywhere due to the rains that Florida always has (I'm a native, so I know this well). They make no effort to spare the cats the water, which even gives them less area in their enclosures than they already have. When I asked our guide what they were doing about it, he said something vaguely about how they were "mulching". There was no mulch visible and certainly mulch wouldn't help in THIS case. So the animals only have the manmade wooden platforms to escape to unless they're lucky enough to be in one of the enclosures that isn't partially swamped. The charge of $35 a person, unless the children are under 10, is ridiculous. The guides are all volunteers, so the owner is obviously raking in the profits. The guides are not properly trained, and cannot seem to speak independently much. Instead, as you reach each enclosure (same type of cat, with minor variations, for the most part)...so as the group arrives, the guide then pulls out a tablet, hunts around for the appropriate spiel about that particular animal, and presses "play". We are then "treated" to a brief discussion of the particular animal's past and then a boring sermon on conservation. This is rather ridiculous, considering that the owner originally kept some of these big cats as pets at one time and at one time a news report (which can still be seen) titled "Rent a cabin with Big Cats" the owner is quoted as saying: “Nothing speaks tranquility like a leopard hanging in the branches or a tiger wading in the water. Nothing can quiet your soul like the purr of a mountain lion. We invite you to pull up a chair and have a lynx or a bobcat come sit in your lap while you stroke its luxurious fur...” –(Carole Baskin) SO...I call this straight HYPOCRISY at its finest. She's chosen to change the message as it suits her, but what's really pitiful is that these cats are paying for it. Many are from colder climates, forced to live in the Florida heat and mud for the rest of their pitiful existance, in small enclosures, with an occasional "vacation", as the guide put it, in a larger enclosure for 2 weeks out of the year. This place needs to be SHUT DOWN.

This business, off of Gulf to Bay in Clearwater, has been a business I have frequented before. But today I stopped by, and the owner, who was just arriving, opened the door for me as he stared down my blouse. Until this point, I'd never met him before. But he went into his back office and as usual, the pleasant woman behind the counter weighed the bracelet I was looking at, and named the price of $50. "Great", I said, "I'll take it. Can you engrave it also?" This was a mistake. When the woman took the bracelet back to the owner to inquire, he immediately upped the price of the bracelet to $75, claiming that she had made a mistake because it was a brand name, despite the fact that they never sell according to brand but only silver weight. He also heartily assured me that even THIS was a bargain and I should be grateful. (Incidentally, it was merely a very lightweight, small bracelet made of welded together Reed & Barton silverware). Apparently, the owner thought he had seen a sucker. I turned down his counteroffer. I will not be frequenting here again, and I heartily recommend that everybody else avoid this crook, as well.
