This is one of those crucial moments when we as a nation must decide if the conviction of one man is worth throwing out the principles behind the Bill of Rights. The onus is on the authorities to provide evidence against the accused, and to provide a fair and speedy trial. If a man can be held in jail indefinitely for refusing to decrypt a hard drive without having been charged with a crime, there's an enormous opportunity for the government to abuse that kind of power.

It just occurred to me that suction cups wouldn't work in outer space. Weird thought.

"...a subtle but significant blessing we receive is the spiritual gift of gratitude that enables our appreciation for what we have to constrain desires for what we want. A grateful person is rich in contentment. An ungrateful person suffers in the poverty of endless discontentment."

Up to this point I've been taking a "wait and see" approach with our new president. I have been surprised at the way Trump supporters, when pressed about specific issues that I found concerning, downplayed his remarks, saying they didn't think he would actually do those things and once he got into office he would follow the advice of smart advisors and take a more reasonable approach. It seemed really dangerous to assume that a candidate will choose to honor the specific campaign promises that you like and ignore the ones you don't like. But since there wasn't much I could do to change things outside of the ballot box, I figured I could withhold judgment until we had a chance to see what the man actually did once he took office.

This particular piece of executive action has no redeeming qualities. It will not make America great. It will not make Americans safe. It's just a manifestation of the irrational fear that seems to be the motivating factor behind so much of what President Trump stands for.

This is very encouraging.

Well played, vidangel. I was a critic, but you showed me why I was wrong. And that was hilarious. Please watch and share, everybody.

I've been talking about the need for this technology for years. I'm so glad people have been working on it.
