Most of today's writers must take control of their own marketing fates to be successful and +Cat Rambo is helping! Her new book, Creating an Online Presence, is an essential tool for any writer who wants to step up their game. What are you waiting for?  8)

Our privacy isn't just being invaded, it's being occupied, and there seems to be nothing we can do to stop it. Well, I just saw this on Kickstarter and felt this might be where to begin. Whatcha think?
The goal is to cleanup and release the source code that was used to power Lavabit as a f/oss project with support for dark mail added.

Eskimos have scores of words for snow and ice. Not surprising, since the various states of frozen water are a huge part of their lives. What word, then, has the most synonyms (and thus most significance) in the English language?

Drunk. In English, over 2,000 words describe the state of alcoholic inebriation.

Cheers!

Yesterday a multi-county grand jury cleared officers in the shooting deaths of a young couple, claiming the shooting was lawful and justified

We all like to think our police forces are good people trying to do a good job, that our judicial system may make errors but no outright injustice. When I see these things in other states, I like to think, "that's them, not us, not Oklahoma."

It hurts to be so obviously wrong.

Oklahoma City - Back on April 9th a small army of officers from a U.S. Marshals Metro Fugitive Task Force swooped in to arrest Chris Stout. They're swoop was almost too late; they 'encountered' Mr. Stout and his girlfriend Stacy in the parking lot. The couple tried to flee in their vehicle, but an officer stopped them by crashing into their vehicle.

Neither Chris nor Stacy were armed, and the officers only had an arrest warrant for Mr. Stout.

Thereafter, at least 75 (!) bullets were shot into that stopped car, by at least 7 different officers, including U. S. Marshals, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, OCPD, and sheriffs from two different counties. Chris and Stacy were both dead at the scene. The only other injury was to the eager officer who initiated the crash.

Stacy had a previous arrest, but no convictions or anything else on her record. Chris was a veteran thief, but apparently had no record of violent offences. Stacy was the mother of a two-year-old daughter.

Yesterday a multi-county grand jury cleared the officers of any wrong-doing, claiming the shooting was lawful and justified.

Lawful and justified.

It was reported (but very quietly) that Mr. Stout was suspected  in the burglary of officers' homes in Payne County "where firearms had been reported as stolen." Apparently he pawned the stolen goods in Oklahoma City.

Looks like he didn't get away with stealing from cops, but the cops may have gotten away with at least one murder.

Maybe it could have been avoided by not being a criminal that steals from hard working people. Maybe it could have been avoided by not fleeing from the police.

When you disregard the rules of a civilized society it's hard for me to find sympathy when you get treated in an uncivil manner.

If you or someone you love sees past the surface of things, then this Kickstarter might be just what you are looking for. 8)

Here's hoping mine gets here in time for Valentine's Day.

Coming soon, brought to your neighborhood by Big Brother - not "to protect and serve" but to "detect and observe." Still cool, though.
