But you miss the essential ethical core of Christianity, which is (or was) about love, mercy, and forgiveness. These ideas don't have significant pagan precedents. I'm an atheist myself, but even I know that the essence of Christianity isn't about his birthday or what miracles he performed or even about his death and resurrection. It's about Christ's message of redemption from sin and a personal and reciprocal love relationship with God. I don't think you'll find any of these in the ancient pagan religions.
