I formatted #NIPS2013 accepted papers into nicer format (LDA topics, similarity sort, colors :p), like last year:

http://cs.stanford.edu/people/karpathy/nips2013/

(for comparison, the official page: http://papers.nips.cc/book/advances-in-neural-information-processing-systems-26-2013 )

As last year, the page allows you to toggle LDA topics and off to browse the papers, or (my personal favorite) find a paper you like and sort the other papers according to tf-idf similarity. This tends to reveal exceptionally relevant papers.

Very bearish speech from a professor at Hong Kong. He gave the speech pleading with people not to record it due to its frankness, but it made it online anyways.

Cliff notes:
1)Sovereign debt is $5.8 Trillion
2)Inflation is not 6% as reported officially, but 16%
3)GDP CONTRACTED 10% the previous year, instead of growing 9% as reported

Interesting.

It's hard to know when the govt itself isn't transparent at all. I'll keep that in mind.

Setting Device Expectations

Let’s start with the simplest form of this: CyanogenMod does not pre-announce support or lack of support for devices. Ever. Even for the Nexus 4, we did not announce support until a nightly build was available. Further, any announcement regarding the ‘dropping’ of device support will be communicated via this Google+ page, Twitter, Facebook, our blog, or a combination of those; it will not be something buried in a forum post.

This morning, a comment from a CM collaborator on XDA was taken to be as an ‘absolute’ in regards to support of the S4. He offered the opinion of four TeamHacksung maintainers, their frustrations and lack of interest in supporting the S4. What’s seemingly lost on those reading this is that his comments as an individual do not speak for CyanogenMod as an organization.

As for the team’s stance on the S4, there isn’t one at this time, and most definitely won’t be one before the device is sold at retail.

Unlawful imprisonment is SO SEXY. JUST like the civil rights movement.

Thanks for all the rubes who posted the edited video to malign the police officers.

I don't normally forward stuff since I think a lot of tech nerds get really sensitive, but this is pretty serious. Makes streaming pirated streams a felony, among other awesome things that will only expand state power.
Koushik Dutta originally shared:

Just called my representative and both senators to not support the SOPA. Have you?

SOPA is the trojan horse that will lead to censorship and monitoring of your internet browsing to stop "piracy". This is a very slippery slope, with a high likelihood of abuse.

Please reshare.

We did their dim sum menu. The food was just as high quality as the other places in Rockville area, so I was happy to have gone, especially since they didn't have a line to get in like other more popular places. Their egg tarts were beautiful and delicious as well.

The quality is as most people are saying on this review page: My car looked fantastic after the detailing. Shiny and looking fantastic. Why not excellent? They took my quarters that I had accidentally left in the car in the coin cubby. Sure, it was only ~$5, but it's a violation of trust. If they want tips, they should post signs as such; I would have tipped. Not a huge deal, as this has happened before with "complementary" valet, but it just means you need to make sure you removed everything from your car you'll mind losing.
