Does Satan have a special hatred for Israel and the Jewish people that will be expressed especially in the last days? There is a sense in which Satan has a special hatred for Israel and the Jewish people, just as he has a special hatred for the church and the Christian people.

How important is good personal character to effective leadership?

Some people don’t think it is very important. Since leadership requires flexibility, some think that a person with high ideals and deep moral convictions will be less pragmatic or realistic than a person with fewer scruples.

Should astrology or horoscopes be taken seriously?

Astrology at one time was looked upon with great seriousness by the educated classes. For many centuries people believed that the earth was the center of the universe, and this mistaken cosmology led to the conviction that the personality and character of people could be influenced by the position of the heavenly spheres at their time of birth.

What kind of worship does God want?

Christians have lots of different ideas about the best way to worship. Catholics, for example, are divided over whether the traditional Tridentine (Latin) mass should be used or the newer mass in the vernacular. Protestants also have difficulties over traditional and contemporary forms. Much contemporary Protestant worship has . . .

What is the underlying cause of violence?

The human race didn’t create itself, nor can it find fulfillment in itself. Human life is meaningful only in relationship to God (Deuteronomy 8:3; John 4:13-14; 6:32-35, 49-50). Originally, Adam and Eve enjoyed a relationship with God in the Garden of Eden. When they chose the path of distrust and disobedience, they fell headlong into fear, loneliness, meaninglessness, and despair. . . .

Did God create evil?

If we believe that God created a perfect world and He is sovereign, where did evil come from? There are some people who believe that His sovereign control includes the creation of evil, and they base their conclusion on the words of Isaiah 45:7. In that verse, God says, “I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil” (KJV).

Does Scripture Imply That Jesus Descended into Hell After His Death?

There is an early Catholic tradition, preserved in the Apostles’ Creed, that Christ descended into hell following His crucifixion. Some take this to mean that Christ literally descended into Hades,1 although most of the Scripture references that purportedly supported this view are ambiguous and weak when used for that purpose (Acts 2:31; Ephesians 4:9-10; Psalm 49:15).

How and When Should I Discipline My Children?

Before a parent administers discipline, he or she needs to understand its purpose. Proverbs makes it clear that the purpose of discipline isn’t enhancement of a parent’s sense of power or an easier life for a parent who doesn’t want to be awakened by a hungry baby. Nor is proper discipline an opportunity for a parent to . . .

Does God Value Individuality?

Yes, God values individuality. To Him, it is priceless. The Scriptures clearly declare the value of individuality. Paul’s analogy of the church as a body (1 Corinthians 12) shows how the church could not exist without its individual parts. Jesus declared that there are many (individual) mansions in His Father’s house, and that He would go there before us to prepare a place for us (John 14:2-3). . . .
