Never enter a catch basin, a storm drain, or any other drainage system. Gases such as methane can settle in any storm drain and also eminate from any organic material breaking down on the bottom of the catch basin or drainage structure. Only certified confined space entry technicians with all proper PPE (personal protective equiptment), along with all other confined space entry safety protocols in place, should ever attempt to enter a confined space. Broken concrete, protruding rebar, asphalt, blocks, bricks, broken steel manhole covers, are just some hazards I have come across.

Please contact Murphy's Cesspool & Septic Tank Service today for all your Catch Basin repairs or service needs in Nassau & Suffolk County Long Island.

High Pressure Water Jetting is an advanced method of pipe cleaning that has been used in the drain industry for a long time. When water is compressed to create pressure through a pump. The high pressure water is sent through a hose with a nozzle threaded at the far end, also called a jet head. Where the water is forced through small ports that are faced backwards. These ports force the water to propel the nozzle and hose forward. Simultaneously the ports also known as jets will scour debris backwards when the hose is dragged out of the pipe with the high pressure water pump turned on. This pipe cleaning method can be used on small 1-1/2" pipe up to 36" pipe or larger with the use of specialty pumps, skids, hose, and nozzle design. There are different size Pipe Jetting machines for just about every application.
The hose diameter, hose composition, nozzles jet sizes, amount of jets, the material nozzles are machined from, are all designed around the volume of water and the working pressures of the high pressure water pump that is intended to be used.
In the drain cleaning industry here on Long Island we use triplex pumps for small or large pipe cleaning projects. We also use single piston high pressure water pumps to clean larger pipe.

Dry wells are drainage structures that leach rain water from parking lots, roads, buildings, roof water, bridges, or a house roof or driveway into the ground. Home dry wells can also be utilized to leach laundry water into the ground. They can consist of precast concrete ring or multiple rings depending on the capacity needed or the depth which is needed to reach good sand for sufficient drainage. These precast rings are made in different diameters that also effect drainage capacity. On top of the precast ring or rings is a top which can be a dome or a slab with a smaller access hole in it. That hole is covered with either a steel manhole cover and brought to grade for access or a concrete cover that is buried below ground. If the cover is below ground, it will eventually need to be accessed at some point in it's life for maintenance.

AllStormDrains.com | Nassau & Suffolk County Grease Trap Service Professional

Grease traps range in size. Anywhere from large commercial grease separators that have over a few thousand gallons in capacity, down to smaller kitchen systems that can be recessed flush to the floor. They can fit under commercial sinks as well. All grease traps have solid bottoms. Grease traps have an outlet pipe and an inlet pipe separated by one or more baffle walls. These walls allow for the sorting of floating grease and other kitchen waste. These baffle walls allow for water to flow above certain baffles and below other baffles. This staggering process traps solids and sludges on the bottom of the grease trap as well as the top. When the grey water exits the outlet pipe after the baffle or baffles. It is then conveyed by pipe to either a leaching pool, a cesspool, or a sewer system. On Long Island grease systems typically will never be hooked to a leaching field. Whereas, other areas of New York grease trap systems may have different outflow options. Other states commonly use leaching fields as well the others mentioned.
