This.

The phrase "man up" is offensive and potentially harmful to impressionable boys and young men, not to mention its unspoken assertion that to be masculine is to be stronger.

I'm happy enough to be a man, but secure enough to not feel that my masculinity is endangered if I show emotion or dare to challenge gender barriers. I'm thankful to know parents who are more afraid of raising emotionally stunted children than of raising a kid who isn't "normal".

+CM Harrington & +Tim Learmont -- There is such a phrase that simply requires a more generous usage, colloquially: "Step up". It can indicate a willingness to step forward, out of the background, and both take responsibility for one's actions as well as (depending on context) take a role in making something happen.

Holi is a festival that marks events in Hindu mythology and provides photographers with a colorful visual feast. It celebrates the beginning of spring, and falls on the last full moon day of the lunar month Phalguna, which was on March 6 this year. It is a joyous ritual when intense colors, light, emotion, and energy combine in a surreal vision of spirituality.

Nice. I think there are sometimes celebrations in NYC. Not sure that they happened in this weather though.

YES!

As an archer, this pleases me in ways that I can't properly articulate.

Nice. Bacterial batteries are a thing... Goes nicely with the bioluminescent plants that are being made.

George Zimmerman, America's chosen mascot for the reasonable use of lethal force, was arrested in Florida late Friday night on suspicion of domestic violence and aggravated assault with a weapon, again. At a court hearing Saturday morning, a judge granted Zimmerman a $5,000 bond.

Gawd, sick and tired of seeing this fool's face. He'll end up getting himself in jail full time very soon.

do you know the story of Vivian Maier?   She worked as a governess for  several families in New York in the 60s and 70s.  She took extensive photographs, but being extremely private, never showed them to anyone.  She had thousands of rolls of film that she never even developed.  After her death, just by chance, a man discovered her trove of photos at an estate auction.  The discovery was amazing as she was a brilliant photographic artist.

I highly recommend the documentary of the discovery of her work and the painstaking reconstruction of her life through her iconic street photos of New York.

I was amazed by this photographer's story. She died penniless and forgotten, until the pictures were discovered. She had a very interesting eye for the shots she took.

Hey, I'm doing a bit of research: who remembers Gowalla, the geo-social network for iOS/android circa 2007 that was purchased and killed by Facebook? Were you a user? Tell me your memories of it.

I loved Gowalla! Miss it too. I liked the passport metaphor it used, and liked collecting check-in stamps from places i actually visited like tourist sites, monuments, or buildings. I wish someone would bring back something similar.
