Everyone should go to Chez Panisse at least once. The prix fixe menu is served downstairs. The cafe portion is upstairs, which still has a prix fixe menu, but also has a la carte items. If you don't know about Chez Panisse, I highly suggest that you look it up. Famous people like Bill Clinton have dined here. It's considered the epicenter of the Good Food movement, led by Chef Alice Waters.

A delicious steak, with a glass of wine besides, weekdays after nine. I went here for their late-night special - if you come in after 9:30pm Mon-Thurs, you can get a steak and a glass of wine for $25. The meal was delicious - will have to go for the full menu sometime in the future.

This place is so simplistic and delicious. The salad we had looked very ordinary, but the taste was amazing. Grilled rock fish was tender and kept all flavors. Pasta was also very good. Chocolate desert with creme chanti is our favorite.

Finally came back here with my gf since I've been dreaming of their strawberry ice cream ever since my last visit. Unfortunately, they didn't have the ice cream this time around, so we skipped dessert. 1. Beef carpaccio ~Okay. Not a big fan of carpaccio though. 2. California king salmon with beets, horseradish, crème fraîche, and pickled chanterelle mushrooms, $28.00 ~Delicious. Salmon was cooked perfectly and went extremely well with the remaining components. 3. Grape juice, 5 ~Really good, although the half glass wasn't really worth the price tag. Bread was disappointingly cold and hard, as was the butter. Our candle had to be lit after we were seated, and there was a smell of smoke for a minute afterwards. Service was pretty good, although I was surprised to see that they didn't have the menu du jour on the menu. The server stated that they only offer it for lunch, yet it's on the dinner menu on their website?

My visit to SF wouldn't have been complete without trying Chez Panisse. We opted for the cafe and were blown away by the quality ingredients and original flavors. Would have given 5 stars, but the clams in the bouilleabaisse could have been more fresh.

A bit like a holy pilgrimage for California Cusine. We ate lunch in the upstairs Café...unfortunately there has been a fire since, but it looked like it hadn't been redecorated since 1972, which added to the nostalgia. Wonderful, fresh, delicious, local food. We definitely want to come back, and try the fancy downstairs restaurant!
