I got a Groupon for this place for hair wash, cut, partial highlights, deep conditioning treatment and style. The staff were nice enough although they didn't really engage me in conversation...they were quite busy talking amongst themselves in another language! I had asked for a "natural" look with the highlights but was informed that the deal only covered 7 foils and that to see anything I would have to upgrade to half-head highlights for $30. I agreed to so that's what the stylist did. Upon leaving the salon, I was was happy enough with the results. After getting home and taking a better look at their work, I found out that she hadn't bothered with any sort of fine highlight...there were chunky stripes of blonde throughout my hair. They were especially obvious on my part. I also found that the ones on the side of my head looked like they had been done a month ago since she hadn't bothered to get the colour close enough to my scalp. A few days later, the hair which had been highlighted started falling out when I brushed my hair...she had fried my hair. I considered going back in to get it fixed but decided that I didn't want to take the chance...I should be able to do a better job myself!

DO NOT GO TO SALON 861!!!! Worst salon experience ever!! I was trying to save some money and I bought a GroupOn deal for a color, cut, treatment and style. I asked for a dark medium brown and Ieft the salon with bright red hair and major HOT ROOTS. While the color was in my hair I asked the owner/stylist why the dye in my hair looked so red and she said that it was only the lighting. I ended up having such severe hot roots because she left the color on my hair for too long. After 3 washes and a bathtub full of dye; my hair was still so red that I had to go to my usual salon to have it fixed. I had no confidence that Studio 861 could fix the mistake and I didn't want to have my hair ruined even more. The owner/stylist was not very friendly at all and only spoke with a male colleague and made me feel very uncomfortable. In fact, they were taking about a girl who just left the salon and were making fun of her. I found this very unprofessional. When the dye was ready to be washed out, the male stylist took over and barely washed my hair for 2 minutes leaving a lot of excess dye in my hair. The cut was even worse. He grabbed all of the hair on the crown of my hair and chopped off the ends. He then did the same with the rest of my hair. I asked him when they were going to do the treatment and he said that they already did during the wash. I am pretty sure that no treatment was applied to my hair. During the blow dry session I could smell hair burning. He left my hair curled under the ends in a very old fashion style, when I explicitly told him I wanted my hair as straight as possible. At that point I just wanted to get out of that salon and never go back. The male stylist was very condescending and continued to talk about the client that had just left. The poor woman must have told him that she wanted her hair and make up to look amazing because she was going to a party that her ex would be at and wanted to impress him. Both the owner and the male stylist talked about how desperate the woman is and said that she needs to “get over it”. I don’t think that’s how you should treat your clients who might give you repeat business. I hope that woman reads this review so she knows not to go back. I wish I read the other reviews before purchasing the deal. But I guess you get what you pay for. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!!! Unless you like bad service, bad hair and want to be ridiculed.

I was just about to buy a living social deal for the salon, but I'm glad I read the reviews, as I'm done with disastrous haircuts!!

I first heard about this Salon through a voucher for Keratin treatment and decided to give it a try. During my first visit, I found their service to be excellent and the stylists were very attentive to their work and to my requests. I was advised to get a haircut after the keratin treatment because my ends were so dry (I totally agreed). I must say that the haircut was absolutely amazing!! It was done by a male stylist (Jairo) and it was exactly what I was looking for. Even my mother, who rarely gives out compliments, noticed the difference in my hair and said that it was the best style that she has seen on me...totally suited my face shape, etc. Because I was so impressed, I went back a second time this year and again, was very happy with Jairo's work - I got a cut and partial highlights. I will definitely be going back soon. Highly recommended!

Bought a dealfind deal for haircut, partial highlights, deep conditioning treatment, and a blow-dry. Seriously wishing I hadn't. The partial highlights were 7 foils, so I said no thank you to that. I asked for a trim, with a little bit of layers. My hair is now disastrous. I'm not sure where this so-called stylist did his training but I'm pretty sure I could give myself a better hair cut. My trim took off at least 2 inches, and the layering has left me with a bit of a Farrah Fawcett look. I should mention I came in with medium length straight blonde hair. Nothing fancy. When I asked the stylist why he did that, he blew me off and said he was on a phone call. He rolled his eyes when I told him I wasn't happy and said okay, whatever whatever that's a trim. The owner just sat back and allowed his behaviour. Customer service = appalling. Even worse, my haircut which I will now have to pay extensive amounts of money to fix. Lesson learned, if it's a bargain, you're going to get what you pay for.

Disappointed. I was optimistic with this place, as I like to support small businesses. However, when going for laser treatments I was disappointed a little bit more each time I went. One good point: they're open on Sundays whereas most salons are not. I found that there was a lack of professionalism among the staff. They never remembered what my appointment was for; they didn't explain to me what to expect from the treatments or results; they didn't do a thorough job; and they'd be very obvious when they were annoyed for whatever reason. Although she seemed nice at first, I found the esthetician very cold and occasionally rude. She made me feel like I was a bother and seemed annoyed when I asked her questions. For the most part their salon is clean and sanitary, however I did notice that they weren't using new popsicle sticks when I went for my appointments. There were none in the trash, nor was there a jar of new or clean sticks anywhere in the room. I didn't want to believe that a spa would reuse popsicle sticks from one client to the next, but it was a fact that was hard to ignore. I will not be going back. I have had similar treatments at other spas in the past and this place definitely does not measure up. As a small business, Studio 861 should provide better, more friendly service to their clientel if they want to receive better reviews.
