Gotta laugh at the idiots who believe that wearing a condom is the same thing as murdering children.

No but promoting a group of people who's birthrate is below replacement value(whites) to further decrease their birth rate is murder, genocide actually and that's exactly how the UN describes it. Usually morons will try to justify genocide(only against whites) because they have been taught from birth that whites are evil, illegitimate as a race(but all other are totally legit) or that evil whitey is the oppressor and has done nothing but genocide so it's only karma that they're being systematically exterminated through mass media social manipulation by an outside group(jews). Of course mentioning that jews own our media and control public opinion is racism and a "hate crime" but for them to reduce our birth rates and push mass immigration/multiculturalism on our countries is totally fine, it's progress in fact.

The professor has endured, and responded to, the first stage of grieving by which the United States is adjusting to its new status in the world: denial. The Christian right, terrified because warnings about "Ghodless Commies" and "Yellow Peril" and "Al CAYDA!"  aren't bringing in the money like they used to, is now resorting to the time-honored tactic of trying to shout their opponents down.

Of course, what's important is the next step: if the professor finds his windows shattered during a twenty-first-century Kristallnacht, then we'll know that America has slipped over the edge from "denial" to "anger" and is sliding down the long slope to totalitarianism.

Of course, that can't happen here.

The Clothesline Paradox and the Sharing Economy

This was my keynote yesterday at #oscon , the O'Reilly Open Source Convention.  I talk about what's wrong with our economy - the ecosystem failure that occurs when companies think it's OK to take more value out than they create - and contrast that with sharing economies like open source software.  I use the analogy of "the Clothesline Paradox" - Steve Baer's wonderful account of how solar energy is left out of our energy accounting, treated as if it were a tiny slice when in fact it is the root of all - to explore how creative economies create value that they don't capture.

I talk about my conversation with Hari Ravichandran of hosting company Endurance International Group, which led to a partnership to study Bluehost customer data to examine the impact of open source software and web hosting on small business (http://oreillynet.com/oreilly/opensource/radarreports/economic-impact-of-open-source.csp?cmp=fb-code-ebooks-open-source-oscon-smb) as an example of how value created but not captured by innovators shows up elsewhere in the economy.

I also talk about evidence of economic acceleration coming out of other sharing economies.

(P.S. If you just want to look at the slides, a PDF with notes is here: http://www.slideshare.net/timoreilly/the-clothesline-paradox-and-the-sharing-economy-pdf-with-notes-13685423 )

Let me know what you think.

Sam Harris puts it well:

"If someone doesn’t value evidence, what evidence are you going to provide that proves they should value evidence?

If someone doesn’t value logic, what logical argument would you invoke to prove they should value logic?"
