Endeavour was taking a bit of a Grand Tour for its final flight. Due to temperature constraints (the stripped shuttle had to stay above freezing) it needed to fly at very low altitudes. If it was going to be that low anyway, why not show it off? On its way to California it stopped by a bunch of places that were NASA related. Once it got to California, it switched to tourist mode. It buzzed over the Golden Gate bridge, Disneyland, Griffith Observatory and looped over the whole of LA several times. It passed over LAX three times. We were eavesdropping on air traffic control chatter using a radio scanner, so we learned that the pilot was doing pre-landing preps and coordinating with the ground crew.
