http://clararitger.com/2015/05/18/what-i-learned-from-crowdfunding/
I was one of those kids who shied away from the annual school wrapping paper fundraiser because I didn’t like asking for money. I had a lot to learn.

It’s been one year and nine months since I changed my phone number. And I know you still get messages and phone calls from people expecting to find me at the other end. I know this, because you’ve ...

The story of one man who took his passion for the arts and founded a Milwaukee microbrewery.
We were killing time in Milwaukee, Wisconsin waiting for my sister's plane to arrive, so my parents decided they wanted to take me on a tour of the Miller Brewery. We get there by about 3:15, and w...

"The Great American Cooking Story" now has a web home! http://clararitger.com/2015/05/12/the-origin-story/

In the first post, I wrote about how my idea for the documentary web series on the role of restaurants in revitalizing neighborhoods came to be.

In just one week I'll continue the journey by getting on the train across the American South. #MTPtrain

In one year I went from thinking I should be making documentaries to crowdfunding my way on board a train across the country to create a series of them.

A train journey across the American South.
Six cities in 10 days with 20 passengers.
Millennials.
Trying to see the future of our country and where we fit in it.
We’re in the middle of a culinary revolution, I say. And we should be figuring out how to feed more people. Did you know 1 in 6 Americans are hungry?
I need your help to get on the train.

The real reason so many journalists have second careers in PR
The people who flock to marketing and public relations careers have always had a place at the table in my life. When my day job was in journalism, they were the uninvited guests who I only shared a...

ISIS, the U.S. response and what it means for Millennials. Listen to a roundtable discussion I participated in for GVH Live's first-ever podcast!
Welcome to the first episode of GVH Live's podcast Inside Look.  GVH Live's editor-in-chief Barrett Holmes Pitner and reporter John Bowden sat down with foreign policy reporters Tom Rogan (@TomRtweets) and Clara Ritger (@clararitger) to discuss the recent developments with ISIS in the Middle East and around the world, the nature of the United States' involvement in the conflict, and the significant role millennials can play. Terrori...

Between August and May I covered the rollout of the Affordable Care Act's health insurance marketplaces, the launch and repair process of the online registration site HealthCare.gov, and the Congressional hearings with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and other key members of the Obama administration. I broke the story about the delay of the individual mandate for Americans whose health plans were canceled, and reported on the obstacles faced by the Latino population in getting coverage. I am also a member of the Association of Health Care Journalists. In June I began covering Congress full-time. I focused on foreign policy, reporting about the U.S. response to the conflicts in Israel and Gaza, Iraq, Russia and Ukraine. I developed sources on Capitol Hill, speaking with members of Congress for stories such as the one I wrote about the Iraq veterans in Congress who felt as though there was little they could do now to stop ISIS from retaking Mosul and other cities they fought for.
