One of our students reminded us of Suzan-Lori Parks' Topdog Underdog at the last Table Read. He loved the story and was anxious to try his hand at this two man play about brothers, Lincoln and Booth whose life stories revolve around the street hustler's game of three-card monte. We learn about the family dynamics that shape who they are and the choices they make within the simple setting of a one room apartment.

Parks was the first African American woman to receive the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Topdog Underdog in 2002. We honor her work and pass it on to another generation on July 1 at 7 pm.

This and all our Table Readings are free and open to the public. This script is for mature audiences. Parental discretion is advised.

Our next Table Read is The Amen Corner. After discussing the fact that our local audiences want familiarity, we decided on James Baldwin's first play. It's significant, hard hitting and perfect for a city in the "Bible Belt." #tableread #scrapmettle

I'm getting really excited about what's coming into the frame for Scrapmettle! It's been a long haul and well worth the trek!

I heard the name Pearl Cleage long before I knew her work.  My sister lived in Atlanta in the 90's when it was a hot seat for African American artists.  The only thing I ever heard her say about Cleage is that she was talented and "cool."   Our actors will read her play Flyin West next Friday, May 6th at 7 pm. You're welcome to sit in and listen.   #tableread  scrapmettle.net/next-up
