A beautiful location, a stunning location for a building of this type. Situated on the edge of a dark lake and with a rhododendron covered mountain behind, this abbey is well worth a visit just to stop and take in the majestic surroundings, relax and sit by the lake or walk around the gardens. The building is still in use by Benedictine nuns who bought it in the early twentieth century and as such most of the interior is not open to the public. That can be somewhat disappointing for some people but what you get from the views and the beautiful walled gardens more than makes up for it. Don't be tempted not to visit on a bad weather day either because the landscapes here are as worth seeing on a rainy day as on a sunny day.

Definitely a fun experience. More of a picturesque location than anything else. The whole area is amazingly beautiful, but to drop a this abbey in the middle of the landscape just adds so much more. There is little of the abbey itself you can actually tour as it's still in partial use, so I do understand some of the complaints as not matching expectations. The grounds are still wonderful to walk around in though, the gardens in particular are fully open and quite meticulously maintained. If you have some nice weather and enjoy walking around in a postcard landscape, you'll enjoy this stop.

This is the most amazing place on earth! The landscape is majestic and the gardens a work of art. My trip was transformed by this visit. Every time I look at my pictures now I feel like crying from the gracefulness of the place.

We thought this was a great place to visit I could have spent more time here. But I think I will be coming back as my mother in law lives in leenaun.

Great place but very very touristic. Nice garden and impressive landscapes.
