This is one really lucky pigeon. This Cooper's Hawk actually had it pinned on the ground for just over a minute. Unfortunately for the hawk - fortunately for the pigeon - a car drove by and (possibly on purpose) scared the hawk away.

I'm guessing it's much MUCH worse on the East Coast, but the wind is really starting to gust here in Toronto. If you haven't done so already everyone, batten down the hatches and stay safe.

As I approach the end of sorting through and processing over 50,000 bird images I have shot in the last year I come across shots like this that I took in the spring. In the process of playing around I do have to wonder if I have gone too far by entirely removing the background from this shot?

I went to Presqu'ile Provincial Park again yesterday for a ten-hour birding marathon. Once again I did a tour of some of the cottages for some backyard, or in this case front yard, birding.

Last week for Squirrel Saturday I posted a shot of a red Squirrel poking his head out of a hole in a tree. This shot was taken a few days later and it is the same tree, the same hole and as far as I know the same squirrel.

I have a new visitor on my balcony today. While I don't mind having squirrels visit me, this is a one-day visit for this little guy. I don't want him nesting here so if he comes back tomorrow I will have to call Wildlife services to come get him.

Last Thursday I stopped by Humber Bay Park to see what was there. This juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron and a bunch of her friends didn't appreciate my visit and took off.

I finally was lucky enough today to have a Brown Creeper stay out in the open and out in the sun long enough (about one second) for me to get a good shot.

I don't have a backyard so I don't get much of an opportunity to do backyard birding. Back at the end of July I visited Presqu'ile Provincial Park which is about 150KM east of Toronto. Just outside of Presqu'ile are some cottages and one on the cottagers is an avid birder that welcomes everyone onto his property to view the birds and butterflies that visit his garden and feeders.

A friend of mine sent this link to me and it is something we all need to think about before buying a bottle of water.
