Attention Science Lovers: Hangout at the Large Hadron Collider!
Location: The CMS Underground eXperimental Cavern, ~100 m underground, Cessy, France (http://g.co/maps/269u2
Date: 30th January 2012
Time: Around 1230-1300 hrs Central European Time (GMT +1)Update
: This announcement was very short notice, and we'll only go ahead if enough people are interested. Please comment if you'd like us to launch this.
The Compact Muon Solenoid (or CMS) experiment is one of the LHC's general-purpose experiments. To-morrow, I will be in the CMS Underground eXperimental Cavern (UXC) with the spokesperson of the CMS Collaboration, Joe Incandela
. Joe has kindly agreed to participate in a (short!) Hangout in front of the beautiful CMS detector , and will answer your questions about the detector itself, the #LHC and #physics !
Since I don't have Hangouts on Air, only a very limited number of people will be able to participate, so it will be nice if you could stay for a while and let someone else join. The whole Hangout will probably not last much more than 10 minutes. This time. ;)
If any teachers or lecturers
would like to join this Hangout from their classrooms and involve their students, please leave a comment (or send me a message) and I'll try and give you preference.
Joe and I should be online for the Hangout sometime between 1230 hrs and 1300 hrs Central European Time
, if not earlier. Do the maths, and make sure you're not late. We'll try to start in that time bracket, but there are a lot of things to do, so no promises!
Do spread the message and join us for this unique Hangout! After all, in how many subterranean Hangouts have you participated?
Perhaps +Katherine Gramann
, +Natalie Villalobos
and +Chee Chew
could pass this on as well.

Depending on how this one goes, I hope to organise more Hangouts from the CMS UXC in the future. Perhaps we'll get Hangouts on Air in the future and more of you can join.
