Astronomers can confirm the idea that gravity warps space, in a truly beautiful way...
Warped gravitational lenses predicted by Einstein are some of the most beautiful – and useful – objects in the sky. We've seen a few dozen, but which is the most perfect?

No way that's talking about me. Ahem.
We all know Rome wasn't built in a day.

NASA has big news up it's sleeve today - what have they seen at Europa?

Above: Europa, courtesy of NASA. The brown stripes are thought to be zones where upwelling ice is carrying material up from the ocean. NASA has teased the world by announcing a press conference today about a 'surprising find'...

What would ancient explorers think, I wonder, to know there's sea so far up in the sky?
True, they were probably more interested in curing their scurvy, but still.....

If humanity ever moves into the universe in numbers, where will we live? And how strange will our lives become?
http://ow.ly/ls48304xnTp
We’ve looked at the kind of off-Earth living places - both on a planets surface and floating in space - that we might well build in the foreseeable future. A lot of them are based upon technologies tested in the last ten year...

We spend millions looking for aliens. But if we are alone there's an explanation - maybe we are the first life to arise? http://ow.ly/qAYd304xntT
What about that great silence from the sky? Where are the radio beacons and messages of all the advanced civilisations that have had 13.5 billion years to evolve in this universe? Where are the aliens? This is probably not ...

SETI did detect something, but there's no reason to susprct aliens just yet. Good, because I tried washing my tin foil hat and it tore :(

Things That Might (Possibly) Be Due To Aliens, Part 4: Tabby's Star.
While debate rages, it keeps getting weirder...

When we talk about the idea of finding alien life – whether that’s a galactic empire or a single microbe – people often get frustrated by the prevarications and grey-area language scientist use. There’s a good reason for that...

How Far Away Is The Furthest Statue? Humans have a love of statues, momuments, and markers. You might be surprised to discover how far we've taken it...
http://ow.ly/z1uT304xtv0
Human beings love to put up statues, effigies, busts, and monuments. They’re such a feature of modern civilisation that we don’t even see them really. But we also use them as markers, and place them out in the wilderness to s...

Now we know there's a rocky planet near Proxima B, what next...?
http://ow.ly/ZX3a304xtgQ
So, the cat is out of the bag…… if that cat were an Earth like planet orbiting a star just four light years away: Proxima Centauri, the nearest star to Earth, has an Earth like planet (link here)! But that phrase ‘Earth-like...

Story
Tagline
John Freeman has a PhD in Physics, he writes, he paints, he tutors and he's a Scout leader. To his frustration he has never been able to dance, whistle, or play anything musical. Ideally he'd like a job that didn't involve getting out of bed so early. Or ever.
Introduction
I'm a writing, drawing, painting, tinkering, all round space and science geek. I've got ferocious technical skills: I've worked on everything from spectrometers, to high tech coatings, to mass spectrometers, to diffusion pumps, to electronic cigarettes. If you can name  a piece of tech, I've probably at least tinkered with it.

I'm also good with people: I work as a private mathematics and physics tutor in the evenings, and I'm a Scout Leader.

As for hobbies: I'm a contributer to the American Association of Variable Star Observers solar database, I spend many evenings searching for meteors with an especially modified camera. I've tried Judo (I got squashed pretty fast), longsword fencing and Sabre fencing.

If you know me, you know that I'm definitely me and not the average guy.....
Bragging rights
I've got an amazing, close knit and loyal group of friends, an incredibly supportive familly, and the most wonderful missus on this planet. I'm a very lucky guy.
