Big stories of little planets...
The earliest days of the solar system would have been a very strange place for us -  the planets had not yet formed and instead there were hundreds of protoplanets in the inner solar system, and massive accretion cores of developing gas giants in the icy ou...

I'm not feeling great...
I've been feeling seriously walloped by this cold, added to a fortnight of long shifts at my day job, so I'm holding back on publishing the next Ancient Solar System entry until I can proof read it without my head feeling like it's gonna fall off - hopefull...

For once the side-raining, hailstoning, sunburning  Scottish weather co operated - at first there didn't seem much hope: A path of dark blue sky mocked us and it got eerily dark..... Then the clouds thinned a bit, and be...

Solar storm blindsides Earth, and an unusual eclipse...
The Sun is generally a very nice thing to have nearby, especially because we'd all freeze to death without it. But this week the Sun threw a surprise at us: A combination of events led to a storm of solar particles crashing through the magnetic field that p...

Fall into the night, final version....
Far into the future, a ruined city awaits its fate, as its planet falls headlong into the gigantic, solar system sized, black hole at the centre of out galaxy. The dim red sun it orbits can barely compete with the brilliant blue stars that surround the...

Story
Tagline
John Freeman has a PhD in Physics, he writes, he paints, he tutors and He's a Scout leader. To his frustration he has never been able to dance, whistle, or play anything musical. he'd like a job that didn't involve getting out of bed so early. Or ever.
Introduction
I'm a writing, drawing, painting, tinkering, all round space and science geek. I've got ferocious technical skills: I've worked on everything from spectrometers, to high tech coatings, to mass spectrometers, to diffusion pumps, to electronic cigarettes. If you can name  a piece of tech, I've probably at least tinkered with it.

I'm also good with people: I work as a private mathematics and physics tutor in the evenings, and I'm a Scout Leader.

As for hobbies: I'm a contributer to the American Association of Variable Star Observers solar database, I spend many evenings searching for meteors with an especially modified camera. I've tried Judo (I got squashed pretty fast), longsword fencing and Sabre fencing.

If you know me, you know that I'm definitely me and not the average guy.....
Bragging rights
I've got an amazing, close knit and loyal group of friends, an incredibly supportive familly, and the most wonderful missus on this planet. I'm a very lucky guy.
