As a follow-up to the recent newspaper ‘editorial’ I shared, if you would like to know more about Mr. Lincoln’s views on immigration, including the actual policies he pursued while President, I would direct you to this blog article which I wrote last year: “‘Land of Opportunity’: Lincoln on Immigration” (http://www.mrlincoln.com/blog/?p=270).

I will be attending the Iowa Library Association’s annual fall conference in October as an exhibitor, along with my colleague and friend Laura Keyes, who portrays Mrs. Lincoln.  On the registration form, exhibitors are asked if they would prefer that their booth not be located adjacent to those of other particular exhibitors.  Although Abe generally gets along with just about anybody, this is how I responded:

If you are an Illinois resident, do you have big plans for "Illinois Township Day" on Sept. 21? Abe does, as he will be spending part of the day with the good folks in both Oak Park Township and River Forest Township. In fact, he's already working on brief speeches he will make in both places to mark the special occasion.

Have you ever heard about the time a bunch of Republicans discontented with the “Establishment” held a convention in Cleveland and nominated a controversial, contradictory, brash self-promoter for President?  It really happened … way back in 1864!  And some people say that history is boring and irrelevant to the present!  Read all about it at http://www.mrlincoln.com/blog/?p=369.

Here’s another photo of Mr. Lincoln’s participation in Oak Park’s Fourth of July parade, which was published in a local weekly newspaper affiliated with the Chicago Tribune (photo by James C. Svehla / Pioneer Press Photos).  By the way, Mr. Lincoln’s next appearance will be this Saturday when he will be in Bloomington, IL for “Lincoln’s Festival in Bloomington”!

Mr. Lincoln celebrated the 240th birthday of our nation – 12 score years! – by running in the Independence Day 5K race in Riverside, IL, marching in the Fourth of July parade in our hometown of Oak Park, and otherwise enjoying the day about town.  He even made the front page of our local weekly newspaper! (see first photo)

Mr. Lincoln wishes you a very happy Flag Day!  This photo is from last year’s Fourth of July parade in my home town of Oak Park (taken by Jon Langham of Pioneer Press).  My daughter Elaina and I leave today for Spain where we will join the rest of the family, but Mr. Lincoln will be back in time for this year’s parade.  Until then, enjoy your summer and remain thankful for those things our flag represents, in particular our country and our freedom.

It was just over two years ago that I made my first appearance as Mr. Lincoln in Illinois; today I made my 100th (at the Lemont Quarrymen’s Vintage Base Ball Tournament)!  In fact, over one-half of all my US appearances have now been here in the “Land of Lincoln”, as shown in the attached graphic.

Mr. Lincoln was very busy during the past two weeks, with 20 official appearances and many other unofficial ones as he traveled around.  For some photos from part of that time, his trip to Wisconsin from May 23-27, including a photo with a Badger State celebrity, see https://www.facebook.com/MrLincolnKevinWood/posts/1764453140466608.
