A Russian River tradition for nearly a century, Johnson's Beach is a favorite summer spot for Sonoma County locals and visitors alike. Sunning, swimming and floating at Johnson’s Beach is as much a Sonoma County pastime as wine tasting and strolling through the redwoods.

Located ninety minutes north of the Bay Area in the charming and eclectic town of Guerneville, this classic summer getaway sits in the heart of the Russian River Valley and provides the quintessential summertime river experience.

Perfect for family vacations or group getaways, Johnson’s offers charming vacation rental accommodations in the main lodge, rustic cabins dating back to the 1920s, camping, and RV parking.

We were only there for the weekend to participate in the Vineman race and we love this place. The owners were very nice and helpful. We drove from San Diego with a motorhome and they had the perfect spot for us. THANKS SO MUCH!! From our spot we could watch how they build the transition area. Saw some baby raccoon's which were so cute. The beach, the river, the town, the area, it's beautiful! We will be back.

I went paddling here with my inflatable three person boat (for one-third sized persons). It's very relaxing to hang here out with the ducks. I'm glad I remembered my sunblock as there's no shelter on the public beach section. The parking is free but they do get around to closing the gate around six. I was able to park on Church Street in the very welcome shade.

We had a great experience with the owner and his wife. They were very proud of the town, the history and everyone who visits the beach. They mentioned a music festival and if we were local we would be back often.

One of the nicest locations north of San Francisco. Both river beach, canoe rental and downtown Guerneville with bars and supermarket are only a few foot steps away from the camp. Beautiful setting. The washroom/WC is guite dark, a second lightbulb might help. Staff mostly hiding in a shed, but very relaxed.

When it comes to affordable outdoor fun on the River, Johnson's Beach is awesome! The river is cool & refreshing, & the view of the redwoods is lovely. Parking & admission are free; The restrooms are rustic but clean & well-ventilated; You can rent canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, & inner tubes for extremely reasonable rates; and the concession stand serves tasty burgers, hot dogs, shakes & other treats for ridiculously low prices. You also may want to splurge on renting an umbrella for shade. The ladies' room (haven't been to the men's room) is dark & rustic (rough-hewn wood with no electricity), but clean and well-ventilated with two stalls, a sink, & a small changing room with a curtain. There's a roped in shallow area for small children & non-swimmers. Keep a sharp eye on your kids, since there's no lifeguard.
