Fighting for parking in NYC: https://youtu.be/AtMaixm9u0o

In midtown they're are no turns allowed off streets onto avenues. No rights, no lefts, basically from river to river. When you find a parking spot, guard it with your life or we can all accept first come, first served.

Would you go? The thought intrigues me but I think the reality is I'm too old for this. I like my creature comforts now. I do admire the adventure that awaits the winners of this ONE WAY TRIP TO MARS.
We're one step closer to finding out who could be the first humans to live on another planet. Mars One, the private organization planning to find and train a group of four astronauts to send on a o...

I will never be comfortable using a plane's tray table again. Some people have no consideration for the next passenger.

And that means we’re inching into the same territory as the dictatorial regimes criticized by democratic governments for not respecting internet freedoms.

The NYT is doing an op-ed series on marijuana. They are taking the stand that the US government should legalize the use, possession, growth, and manufacture of marijuana. After that hurdle the states could regulate licensing and other restrictions within their own borders. Beside the "popular uses of pot" there would be a supposed increase in the economic uses of hemp. Cloth, canvas, denim, clothesline, flooring, carpeting. Imagine it. All of it done without petrochemicals. Now that's a problem. Isn't it?

The headline alone made me bust out laughing. Maybe there really is military intelligence. The FBI calls for no encryption or for your keys if you do encrypt. The military on the other hand is getting Blackphones for trial so the FBI can't eavesdrop. ROFLOL Is there a double standard here and what does that say about the military trusting the government they're supposedly serving.
Summary:The top-of-the-line Blackphones are said to be "NSA-proof," despite the FBI's new policy that demonizes encryption as a "huge problem" for law enforcement.

I am nervous. There is an old saying that the reason you have enemies is because you have stood against wrong doing. Would there have been so hurtful a campaign against Sarah Lacey if the higher ups in the company didn't know about it? I don't think so. I have signed up for Uber but haven't used it yet. It may be I never will now. The latest development is that Emil Michael had apologized in an email to Sarah Lacey. Are my fears allayed? NO! All eyes on Uber. If their company culture doesn't change don't utilize them. #SarahLacey #Uber #EmilMichael #Pando.com #Feminism #Equality #Family
A big debate among the Pando staff for the past two years has been over just how morally bankrupt Uber is. Earlier this evening, a bombshell story by Buzzfeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith proves the r...

Imagine finding out you have a disease because your name is on a list on the internet. More disturbing is the list is wrong and misinterpreting actions. Walk for cancer and suddenly you have it.

"This may have been the most visibly incompetent police response in a decade, and yes—it can all be chalked up to the apparent desire or need for local police departments to kit themselves out in Iraq-era military gear that makes them look like they're about to storm Fallujah. The protests were—are—about excessive police force that in this case led to what to witnesses are describing as an outright murder, and the response has been to systemically prove the residents right." #Ferguson

We finally have some good news. Our rivers are showing signs of recovery. Increased acidity has killed off many of the fish and shellfish that used to live in the US river system. And you know what? The economic disaster predicted by manufacturers due to increased cost to clean up their emissions, both liquid and gas, never happened. We're starting to see the payoff. Congratulations USA!
Several large rivers in the U.S. are less acidic now, due to decreasing acidic inputs, such as industrial waste, acid mine drainage, and atmospheric deposition.
