Fantastic American Gastro Pub, elevated cuisine, white tablecloth but casual atmosphere and great service. Recently had the rib eye special and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had, I'm always happy dining at The Gage.

The service was terrible. Our waiter (and all the staff) ran around so quickly and were not polite. He grabbed menus out of our hands. The water guy grabbed my friend's water glass so fast he spilled water on her. The waiter went to pour my friend her wine and did it so fast that he accidentally hit her champagne glass, shattering it, not apologizing while he quickly cleaned it up. Never brought her a replacement champagne for the one he ruined. The waiter never asked how our food was, just said, "enjoy," passively and walked away. Did not like the atmosphere, which was so loud. The food was good, but very overpriced. Had the daily pasta. The sauce had amazing flavor, which came from their sister restaurant, and that was the highlight of the experience. Don't go there. Not worth it.

The Gage is stellar. I had the burger (which was one of the best I have ever had,) my girlfriend had the chicken and we split the poutine. My only regret is that I got so full that I was in too much pain to fully enjoy how amazing the food was. They also offer a great selection of beers and very tasty desserts. It's not the cheapest place in Chicago, but the quality is top notch so it's still good value, and you will not leave hungry.

We stopped in Sunday afternoon at about 1:00pm, they were only serving their brunch menu at this time. The brunch menu was relatively small consisting of mostly breakfast options and a few lunch options. So my review is limited to what was available at the time. I had the fish and chips, it was bland, average quality for a bar, for $19 I was expecting more. The beer was priced especially high for a not very special selection, $8-9 for run of the mill Chicago area microbrews. No one in our party was especially happy with the food. The wait staff on the other hand was great, very polite, professional, and attentive. I don't think I'd go back, it was a nice atmosphere, but overpriced. It didn't remind me of any gastropubs I've been to in the past, more like a fancy pub.

The food wasn't bad but the atmosphere was so-so. I went during lunch which is not the time to go. The design is nice but the spatial layout is not. For their location they definitely make do. I feel this is a place of great reputation rather than great experience.

Way overpriced for relatively tasteless food. Great old fashioned cocktail though.
