Take note... #Avaya PSN004098u attaches all SAL Gateway users and requires action by Feb 15th 2014!

Community
#Avaya have released Product Support Notice  #PSN004098u   (see link) for the Avaya Secure Access Link (SAL) which details the "Mandatory Administrative Update for SAL Remote Access Infrastructure".

Avaya will be changing the Destination address used by SAL Gateways for Alarm Reporting / Expert Systems and Avaya Remote Access, the impact of this change is that Firewalls may need updating to allow Avaya SAL access to the new external IP Address.

Continuation in the ability of Avaya SAL to report Alarms is critical to the Proactive Management of the Avaya portfolio of Products, and SLAs may be impacted if Proactive Management of the Avaya portfolio is impaired across Managed Service providers (assuming you have a managed service / support contract with Avaya or a BP).

I would recommend you “review and update firewalls, outbound proxies, and DNS host entries with new IP addresses and fully qualified domain names (FQDN) to allow SAL Gateways to continue uninterrupted communication with Avaya during the migration to the improved infrastructure“ as defined in the PSN.

Originally Avaya released this PSN with just over 6 weeks advance notification for a deadline of Jan 1st 2014, after a successful escalation we managed to get the deadline extended to Feb 15th, but that still leaves little time in the planning and engagement of Firewall Teams etc.

Good luck..

A good write up that you don't need a new PBX in order to deploy #UC !!

On March 21st Avaya released a new Smart Phone App which in itself isn’t big news however you might be surprised to learn that the App isn’t the latest addition to a grow list of UC Apps it is in fact a "Farmers' Market Finder"!

Yes you heard it a Farmers Market Finder App, released by “Government Solutions”, a wholly owned subsidiary of Avaya and was developed as part of Avaya Government Solutions' goal to deliver innovative mobile applications that help government agencies repackage and disseminate valuable information to large public audiences.

What might seem a rather bizarre App for Avaya to develop actually fits very nicely with their mantra “The Power of We™” Avaya’s pledge to helping“businesses to drive faster collaboration, smarter decisions and better business results?”

It’s great to see Avaya not only building the Unified Communications infrastructure to support Social Business but actively driving Social innovation through the “The Power of We™” and I for one hope to hear of more Social Apps from Avaya in the future.
The new iPhone and iPad application uses U.S. Dept. of Agriculture database to help users search for and locate nearby farmers' markets.

Having attended the Avaya Road Map presentation yesterday I was loving the disclosed plan to allow IP Office to be Upgraded to Avaya Aura through a Software Change, now that's true innovation!

Yes, I am also happy to see this as IPO is still their number one selling system, and it's been a bit of an issue if you out grew your IPO and wanted an easy transition to AURA

These vids are great for the Avaya beginner. I would like to see some vids on the new AURA tech, however. There are many of us that are using AURA System / Session Managers and SAL.
