"Monarch Sunset" a new charcoal & watercolour for Canada House Gallery This winter we returned a little later than expected on a ski back from Citadel Pass through Sunshine Meadows to Banff Sunshine Village, but the upside is we got to see a spectacular sunset... Slow and steady wins the light (sometimes.) The contrast of the two mediums strengthens the warmth of the fiery sunset and the coolness of snow. Delicate clouds flirt with the imposing wall of "The Monarch", while a winter's night closes in. It seems as if the trees are gathering to watch the spectacle. http://www.canadahouse.com/dynamic/artwork_display.asp?ArtworkID=38404

"When Light Gets In" | Watercolour and Charcoal | 38 x 18" (52 x 32" Framed) One of our favourite places to ski is up the Paradise Valley in Banff National Park. It's often in the shadow of Mt. Temple, but at the right time of day, the light penetrates the thick forest near the creek and creates pools of light. Heavy with snow and frost the trees lean towards the light as if to pickup the last of the day's warmth, the creek meandering happily by. This piece is a mixture of charcoal and watercolour, the charcoal lending itself to the black of forest depths and monochrome of snow, but warmed by subtle rose, gold, burnt sienna and pale indigo- all colours experienced in winter when one has time to look. http://www.canadahouse.com/dynamic/artwork_display.asp?ArtworkID=38405

Canada House Gallery is proud to present the striking watercolours of Jennifer Annesley. This award winning artist has international recognition for her masterful compositions. Light and dramatic beauty are captured in Annesley's paintings of the Rocky Mountains, European architecture or quiet still-life scenes.
Artist statement: "An exhibition of landscapes, architecture, and a small number of still lifes, the new work explores the architectural qualities of landscape, in terms of structure, strength, line, and geometry; and how architecture relates to its surroundings or landscape, with architectural and still life elements as a landscape in themselves. These watercolours and charcoals mainly focus on Alberta's wild and chaotic Rocky Mountains contrasted with architecture, both local and European."
Exhibition runs Wed April 6 – Tues April 19
Artist's reception Saturday April 16 1-3 pm
