This is my usual go-to place for ramen. During the year, I eat here at least twice a month. Santa is usually a 4 star with my usual order - Classic Ramen with the Garlic Pork broth, Non-Spicy. I really like garlic. When you get it spicy, you lose the garlic taste and your tongue focuses on the heat in my opinion. Last night, I decided to mix it up. I ordered the Stewed Pork Belly Ramen with my beloved Garlic Pork broth. The presentation was pretty, but looks are (and definitely was) deceiving. BIG MISTAKE! The broth had no garlicky flavor (or taste for that matter). The chunk of pork belly was beautiful to look at, but was actually slightly dried and chewy. And the half sliced hard boiled egg, the yolk was dried and a slightly green on the edge. Not at all the gooey Japanese hard boiled egg you are supposed to be served. The pot of green tea tonight was watery. The tea bag needed to be replaced with a new one - no green tea flavor whatsoever. We normally go here during weeknights between 7:30 pm to 8:00 pm to reduce the chances of waiting in line (Santa does not take reservations). Ample parking in the strip mall parking lot where Santa is located.

Simply the best ramen in the San Mateo area. Great accommodation too, with bigger tables and wider aisles.

First time I came here the place was packed right after opening. So came back 10 minutes before opening and was able to get seated pretty quickly. Food comes out pretty quickly and service is great. Karaage comes in 3 pieces for $3.50, I think. For ramen, I got the pork cheek with garlic tonkotsu broth. Pretty good choice. The pork cheek was amazing (though if you don't like eating a big chunk of pork fat, this is not for you). Lots of toppings in the pork cheek ramen, which I like. But if you like more simple ramen, maybe the classic is better for you.

Closed on Tuesdays. A line/wait that is about 20-25 min long but moves fairly quickly. My mouth waters for their pork belly black garlic ramen. It's sooo good that my husband and I can visit this place multiple times during the week without feeling like we've exhausted it. It's packed during both the lunch and dinner hours. We usually like to sit at the "bar." The space of the this place is rather large--larger than their sister counterpart Dojo Ramen. Get the pork belly, you won't be disappointed.

What to order: Garlic Pork Cheek Meat Ramen Spicy I dare you: Extra Spicy Compare with: Ramen Dojo Winner: Santa Roman! Santa Roman puts Ramen Dojo to shame. From the broth, to the spiciness, to the moist of the pork, to the chewiness of the ramen...everything Santa Roman does, they do it better than Roman Dojo. Plus, the place is way bigger than Ramen Dojo, so you don't need to wait for FOREVER just to get seated. Wishful thinking: Adding more cheek meat into the cheek meat garlic pork bowl. One piece is far from enough! So yummy!

Really good, hearty bowl of ramen. Perfectly seasoned and balanced with the right ingredients. The chicken karage was also good, albeit a little bit too greasy. Not as salty as other places, and not as busy either. The shop was filled with people, but turnover was fast and service was quick.

Good ramen, side dishes not bad either. They can be very inconsistent, good one day and bad the next. A little luck on your next visit would help.

This used to be my friend's favorite ramen place and she'd bring me here everytime we hung out, but honestly, this ramen is pretty whatever. I think it'll be good to beginners, but Ramen Dojo is much better! It's still not bad though, and is about $10-11 which is the same as most ramen places.
