Dear friends at Google,

There's been some grumbling from some quarters about your new "Search Plus Your World" feature. People say that you've favoured Google+ social graph and interest graph data over data from e.g. Twitter or Facebook.

I'd love to see what I can do to help.

My name's Evan. I run a (comparatively tiny!) social network called Identi.ca. My company also makes Open Source software, StatusNet, that anyone can use to set up a social networking site that can connect with other such sites on the Web. We provide a hosting service at status.net that lets people set up public or private networks with our software.

By default, the data in our public networks is available under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license. Pretty much the most liberal data license imaginable -- "Just attribute me."

We'd be happy to participate in whatever data feeds you need to let our users participate in "Search Plus Your World", too. No charge to you.

When you've got that mechanism figured out, let me know. We'd love to be part of it.

DOAP has moved to GitHub

Description of a Project, or DOAP, is one of my long-term projects. It's a simple vocabulary for describing software projects.

DOAP is in use at the Apache Foundation, the Python Package Index, and GNOME among others.

Unfortunately, the Trac installation I used to maintain DOAP had become overridden by spam of late. As part of breathing new life into the project, I've moved everything to GitHub.

One of DOAP's features is that it changes slowly, if at all, but there are a few issues to work. Future directions include adding dependencies and taking into account the platform-agnostic nature of much of today's software.

I hope that moving to GitHub will be a starting point for increased collaboration and documentation for DOAP.
