Diving the Andaman Sea - March 2014
The only boat I could find doing a live aboard trip to the Andaman this year was the M/V Pawara run by West Coast Divers. It was a good trip. I spent the first night at Kata Beach in Phuket. The boat is quite nice with a good dive deck. The standard cabins ...

Muang Sema and Ancient Korat
I cycled out to see the 1000+ year old mostly Khmer ruins at Muang Sema Historical Site and near the ancient city of Korat. These places are in the Sung Noen District of Nakhon Ratchasima province and are about 35K from my home. Not much archaeology has bee...

The Garden: Stream Rehab
This is a job that I've been putting off for some time. The stream that leads to our garden pond leaks. I assumed that the liner failed, just as the pond liner failed a few years back. Turns out that most of the leaking was due to porous bricks on the edge ...

We decided to spend Christmas night in the vicinity of Khao Yai National Park. The area is developing rapidly and offers many interesting dining and shopping opportunities. But, first, a little Christmas at home: Miss Pim made this great 3D Christmas card. ...

This is a great place for Isaan food. We visit about once a week. The Som Tam Thai is excellent and made to order (you can specify how hot it should be). The menu is extensive, posted on the wall with photos and Thai language only. We've liked everything we've tried.

I visit Café Ama two or three times a week to sit in the garden, drink good Lao coffee and read the newspaper. The garden is always cool and pleasant. The coffee is very good. The service is prompt and friendly.

This family-run Thai restaurant is probably one of the best in the area. We visit weekly and always enjoy the high quality of the food and ingredients. Although the chef can whip up almost any Thai dish, there is an extensive menu plus specials based on the freshest ingredients which are always on display in a chiller at the front of the restaurant.

Wat Prang Thong contains a 10th century Khmer prang (tower) which has a lintel in the Banteay Srei style. The lintel depicts Indra on his three headed elephant Airavata (known as Erawan in Thai). The prang was poorly restored during the Rattanakosin period and probably bears little resemblance to it's original form except for the east door and lintel.
