Turkish Style Pickles: Cauliflower, Carrots, Garlic, Garlic Scapes, Jalapenos, Radish, Onion

You might say it can take me forever to getting around to doing some things. It's true, case in point. Tursu, I heard of these pickles from +Yas Mean quite a long time ago. I've finally gotten around to making them happen. Well in about 2 - 3 weeks.

Flavoured with fennel and corriander seeds, apple cider vinegar, salt and sugar. I'm looking forward to trying them when they are ready!

Use a combination of vegetables: carrots, cauliflower, garlic, onions, radishes, hot or mild green chilies. If you are using green chilies, blanch them first.

Enough vegetables to fill your canning jar, packed in. Remember to sterilize the jar and lid with boiling water.

Here's the basic brining solution, adjust the quantities for however many jars you wish to make.

500 ml of water
50 ml of balsamic vinegar (don't use a good balsamic vinegar, an inexpensive balsamic vinegar works well)
1 tablespoon of salt
1 1/2 tsp superfine sugar
1 teaspoon coriander seeds
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
Put the water in a pot and bring to a boil. Mix in the rest of the ingredients, give it a stir to make sure the sugar and salt are dissolved. Pour over the vegetables and seal the jar.
Place in the fridge for 2 to 3 weeks, enjoy!

Ridiculous! How did the Library of Congress get to oversee the DMCA, anyway?
In October 2012, the Library of Congress, who determines exemptions to a strict anti-hacking law called the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, decided that unlocking mobile phones would no longer be allowed. But the librarian provided a 90-day window during which people could still buy a phone and unlock it. That window closes this Saturday, Jan. 26.

How do you feel about this?

Beautiful shots. I've only seen one of these in person, and only the hatch, though I've heard there are many throughout the area of Eastern New Mexico where I grew up.

I get the amused look from older women when H and I are getting groceries at Trader Joe's. Younger women and women with kids couldn't care less about a Dad running errands with his son and this is how it should be.
