Brian Bilston is a poet on Twitter. He's often socially conscious, not normally political, though today's poem makes it appears that he's now as concerned as all thinking people about what is going on in the UK.

I've suggested for some time that people in the UK would be wise to store some food as a defence against the worst possible outcome of brexit. We now know that the UK government is itself stockpiling non-perishable food because of their fear of a future shortage. The next step from this is rationing of supply.

If you're in the UK please buy at least a month's supply of tinned and dried food. Also some liquids. If the worst case brexit happens you'll still have something to eat. There's no downside. If an agreement is reached which results in nothing much happening then your cupboard will simply look slightly too full later in 2019 and you'll then be able to spend less at Christmas.

If you fail to keep any food yourself, bear in mind that Guardian readers who have read this article may have a stockpile that you can plunder ;-)

Imagine doing a job which required so much killing that you exposed yourself to a risk of repetitive strain injury seven times higher than average due to all that stabbing, cutting and sawing.
There is no part of the meat industry which isn't disgusting. Don't be part of it. Go vegan.

Pushing e-bikes will not result in mass cycling
15-20 years ago the most common objections heard to the idea that better infrastructure was required to enable mass cycling came from people who promoted training of cyclists and vehicular cycling. It was claimed that if enough people could be trained to cy...

If you think you understand what state the British government is in over brexit, you probably don't.

Road works vs the Dutch cyclist - a rural main route between village and city
Road works always risk placing cyclists at a dangerous disadvantage, which can result in people opting for another form of transport. To prevent this, cycle-routes must always be maintained, as can be seen in this video. There are  many other examples of th...
