On this day in 2012, Gov. Perry published an op-ed reminding Texas Legislative hopefuls that passing a fiscally-conservative, cost-conscious budget in 2013 is crucial to the future of our state. The 83rd Legislature would go on to pass a budget that not only cut taxes and assessed infrastructure improvements, it also left billions left unspent.

On this day in 2010, Gov. Perry presented the Texas Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America with a deed of land transfer for Camp Tonkawa. The camp, which sits upon 91.3 acres that the council had leased from the state since 1949, was transferred to the Scouts after a 2009 vote by Texas Parks and Wildlife.

On this day in 2013, Gov. Perry announced a plan to provide more than $1 billion in tax relief to Texas businesses subject to the state's franchise tax. The governor was joined at the announcement by lawmakers, the Texas Association of Business, National Federation of Independent Business and Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute. During the 83rd Legislative Session, Texas gave a permanent, 100 percent franchise tax cut for any business that brings in $1 million or less in revenue a year.

On this day in 2009, Gov. Perry signed legislation creating a fund to promote the entertainment industry in Texas by providing incentives for the film, television, video and digital interactive media production industries. In the years since, Texas has emerged as a growing presence in these industries, with numerous major films produced here, and the number of major TV productions in Texas – those expected to spend $3.5 million or more – skyrocketing as much as 400 percent since last fall.

On this day in 2010, Gov. Perry emphasized the importance of nurse training programs in Texas to help meet our state's growing health care demands. The governor presented Hendrick Medical Center with a $175,000 Wagner-Peyser Grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) to create an accelerated bridge program that will allow students with a Licensed Vocational Nursing degree to become Registered Nurses in less than a year.

On this day in 2011, Gov. Perry helped cut the ribbon at Cisco’s new Allen Data Center, which integrated the company's entire data center technology portfolio, including computing, switching and data storage access to support Cisco's private cloud strategy. Gov. Perry credited Texas’ sound economic principles, including low taxes, fair courts, common-sense regulations and skilled workforce with helping make Texas the best state in the nation to live, work and do business.
